They were quite common in Korat when I was stationed there in 1971-72. I haven't seen one anywhere in Thailand in recent years. What happened?

I saw them a bit in Java, and was told they were originally imported from India to help keep the snakes down.

How are they against rats & tookays?

I assume that getting a mongoose for the yard is a no-no if neighbors have chickens?

How territorial are they -- stray or stay "home"?

Supposing Thailand has strict laws about trapping/catching native wild life??

Tokays are part of the natural environment, not introduced pests like roosters up and about at 4am.

I would think that a mongoose is a ground animal, whereas a tokay tends to live high up.

Mongoose are territorial but don't know how you'd go about getting one for the yard.

Rats are taken care of by snakes which are taken care of by mongoose.

Tokays, ask a Thai neighbour or a pellet gun?
