Re-entry permits - Bangkok

Recommended Posts

I have seen no reports of any wait time other than the normal when you go to apply.

Suksawat has been reported to be the best of the two temporary offices.

You can also get re-entry permits at both airports 24 hours a day on departure from the country.

Cheers UJ. Suksaway is Major Hollywood right? Seems like an easy skytrain ride..

Yes Major Hollywood. But if you go to Google maps it gives you the wrong location. Have a look at the pinned topic about CW being closed and and go back a bit from the last page there are some good directions on how to get there.

Shy train and then a taxi. Also reports that it is also a quick taxi ride from Asoke.

I left a week ago and got mine at Swampy no problem they do charge a 200 baht fee for photo and doing all of the paper work took about 15 to 20 min. The kicker is only at one immigration area. I flew out on EVA which check in is located at the north end of airport I went thru immigration and told the officer I need a re-entry permit after stamping me out he said go out door first left to the next immigration check point, off I go and no problem after getting re-entry permit the lady escorted me out of the area and off I go. It would be easier just to go to the south immigration check point get your re-entry permit first and then go thru immigration. The ladies were friendly and very helpful

thanks guys. We are probably going to do a trip to Vientiane via the friendship bridge, so it will have to be one of the offices. Seems like Major Hollywood it is then. Thanks too for the heads up on the wrong driections on google - surprise surprise.

I believe it tells you on the form.

It does say it must be made in person. The reason I asked was I seem to recall using others to do it was possible...just curious if this is changed now.

This is for my wife, not me, and we've got a newborn. So I'd rather her not have to shlep out to immigration if at all possible with baby in tow. I certainly can do her 90 day reporting for her. So just wondering if this is any different.

All I can say is that you could try. Take a letter from your wife giving you permission to do it and be sure she signs and dates the copies.

I know for a fact they allow agents to do it.

If you take a taxi from Asoke, make sure you are heading DOWN Sukumvit towards Nana. The taxi will make a left turn a little bit beyond Asoke Station. If you get in a taxi going up towards Prom Phong, you will have to pay extra for a U turn which could take a long time. I paid 78 baht for a U turn which took 22 minutes to make.

If you want to save a few baht (and maybe avoid traffic) take the BRT bus from Sathorn station which is a short elevated walk from Chong Nonsi BTS station.

Get off at Wat Dan and then take a taxi. But make sure you take the taxi in the reverse direction i.e. go back the way you came, because otherwise you will have to make a 3? km U turn to access the Bhumipol Bridge road.

It will still cost about 100 baht to get there (BRT + taxi) so maybe you will save about 20 baht, but it makes for an interesting adventure.

Major Hollywood hours start at 10.30 am but doors open a lot earlier for the pre-processing.

It may still take over 30 mins to get the re-entry permit at a guess.

And if you like Burmese food there are some tasty samosas on sale inside!

Thanks! Drove here. Arrived easily but at 900am. Didn't realise it opened at 10.30. Ah well live and learn.

So just for the record. Re entry permits must be done in person. Power of attorneys don't work - despite me having two of them (one for applying one for picking up the passport). However, my winning smile did and the granted the re entry - just this once.

Going at 9am was overkill. People were starting to crowd around the waiting area and they didn't start procesing us till around 10am when they gave is a queue ticket. Other visa matters received their tickets a bit earlier. Post the initial group of early commers, the waiting room was quiet.

Waited another 30 mins for the actual stamp. So fairly quick, 30-40 min wait for a re entry at major Hollywood.

From Soi 18 Sukhumvit it is 95 baht going and coming back using taxi. Takes about 20 minutes in traffic each way. I have found it the best way to get there and back.
