Love my iPhone, iPad, Apple TV but to be honest I can honestly say there is not 1 app that Apple developed that you cannot find better in the App Store, the calendar app, camera, photo, podcast all have much better alternatives,

I'm just curious why Apple being the biggest tech company cannot have any decent apps, luckily a jailbroken iOS is superior to any other platform

Posted

I think because they leave it to developers to come up with apps.... and opens more doors for people to come up with them....

Personally I don't like Iphoto, although some of the photographic apps, tend to be pretty bad too... (actually all the ones I have tried... some are quite childish ) .... It's a good thing there are non Apple alternatives!

I speak for Mac computer apps, not Iphone and Ipad stuff! .... don't have them so refraining from comment...wink.png

Because there criteria for approving apps is based upon how much money Apple can make, not whether or not the application is good for the consumer

To the OP, the very fact that you have to jail break iOS to get what you want speaks volumes

Apple doesn't have the time to produce the amount of apps that are needed for the App Store. They have thousands of developers producing thousands of apps that Apple gets a percentage of.

It does but unfortunate it's the same with all platforms, iOS is certainly the most customizable in terms of tweaks by far as an example do android have any tweaks where you can adding touch screen gestures to perform tasks ie. Press and hold the middle of the status bar to open app swicher

I have an Ipad Air & Apple won't let me buy any apps(free apps OK)because my address is in Thailand & my credit card is from USA. Do you or anyone else have this problem. Thanks

For crist sake don't start another Android vs iOS battle. If you don't know / don't like Android, stick with your iFuit devices!

I have a US iTunes account using my daughter's US address and my US credit card that is now associated with that address.

I also have a TH iTunes account using my TH address and my BKK Bank credit / debit card.

If you don't have a TH cc, go and open a TH bank account and get a debit card that can be authorised for online purchases and then create a new TH iTunes account - easy.

You can open a US iTunes account and feed it with gift cards purchased from ebay, or Walmart online. That's how I do it.

Occasionally Walmart do a promo and you can pick up a $100 card for $80.

HTH.

Yes I, and I think many with us have the same problem, when I go to Europe I use somebodys credit card and a second Apple ID for the apps there. For example the app "tapa a call pro" isn't possible to download in Thailand when you have only 1 Credit Card.

Just buy iTunes cards and feed the money in to your Thai iTunes account, or open a US iTunes account and buy through that.

I have 2 Japanese, 1 Thai, 1US and 1 UK iTunes accounts. No problem.

1 of the Japanese, the Thai and the US accounts don't have a credit card linked to them.

Apple even has a help article telling you how to open an acount with no credit card http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534

Apple is just a sucker trap for people who need their apps.

I do recall when the first apples came out, you could modify them at will. Used to be an alternative to Microsoft, but the apple folks got greedy and went up-market, trying to get a piece of the pie from Bill.

I say, go pp on them. Use any dog gone computer you want and put Linux on it.

Starve out these manipulators.

Enither use the address your US credit card is registered & have an Apple ID registered for use in the US iTunes Store or open a Thai bank account with a debit card and use the address you gave the bank for an ID useable in the Thai iTunes Store. I have both UK & Thai based Apple IDs

All of the ms office apps are more powerful than iWork's apps,

Well it seems like you had your mind made up before you even started the discussion. I guess you're just teasing replies out of us now.

PowerPoint for iOS was just released about a month ago. Have you done a thorough side-by-side comparison already? Well I have, and MSPP is seriously handicapped compared to Keynote. I don't own any macs so I can't speak to how they compare laptop/desktop-wise.

How about this: Safari is widely considered to be superior to the perpetually bug-ridden and dirt-slow Internet Explorer. Let's see what the market share looks like for mobile browsers:

Safari 7.0 33.91%

Android Browser 4.0	22.17%

Chrome 34.0 7.03%

Safari 6.0 4.99%

Safari 8536 3.43%

Safari 537 2.77%

Safari 5.1 2.37%

Chrome 33.0 2.28%

Chrome 28.0 2.22%

Safari 9537 1.74%

Microsoft IE 10.0	1.61%

Anyway, why does Apple need to make "good apps"? Are you really lying in bed at night, tossing and turning because there are apparently no good apps made by this one particular company? There are plenty of developers out there who make great apps. Maybe Apple has decided that is a market they just don't want to be deeply involved it.

Let's start some more threads in a similar vein:

Why don't Apple make any good french fries?

Why don't Apple make any good diesel engines?

Why don't Apple make any good running shoes?

The answers will all be the same: it's not their primary market. Try not to lose any more sleep over it.

Dude are you crazy non if the apple iWork's suite are anywhere near up to being used in the corporate world they are just to restrictive. And the things that are meant to work don't, as long as iv got a hole in my arse iWork's will never come anywhere near to office on terms of functionality.

Yes apple need to make some good apps because they are the biggest tech company in the world and they should be setting the standard.

Yes I do lie in bed at night because IT isn't life and has been since I opened my my first 386 when I was a trainee.

So if they are going to release a whole operating system which is what iOS is then they should make sure that a a minimum the apps they load on as default should be the absolute best because it's those apps that are representing the company.

Again: Apple won't let me buy any apps, thanks for all the reply. My US CC address is in Thailand. I do have a Thai bank with a debit card that doesn't work either, but I will check with bank about what it takes to make online purchase with debit card. Also I have called & sent emails to Apple, to many times & always get the same answer, CC will not work with US address at Thai itunes store. I will try all of the new ideas. Thanks again.

So now you're re-framing the discussion in terms of 'apps that are used in a corporate environment'? Your thread title says "good apps", so let's leave the discussion right there. And I notice you didn't have much to say about people loving the hell out of Safari. Any comment on why that's not a "good app"?

Yes apple need to make some good apps because they are the biggest tech company in the world

"Tech company" is a pretty broad term; how do you define it? Cisco, Intel and FoxConn are also huge tech companies, but make no software for end-user consumption. Why don't you see that as a problem too? Because, like Apple, they're predominantly hardware companies. Don't believe me? Here is Apple's 2014 first quarter revenue based on line of business:

409397268.jpg

Software is fourth on the list. The company focuses mainly on (and makes most of their money from) hardware. And they're pretty successful, so I'd say whatever they're doing, they're doing it right. Perhaps we should let them know that there's a person on the Internet who isn't pleased with their software product offerings. I'm sure they'll realign their business structure immediately.

And what about Samsung (which actually is the biggest IT company by revenue)? They are leading the market, and yet make no notable software. Why is Apple the only "tech company" that must make killer apps simply because they're a big company?
