I think it will infuriate more then the supporters of Yingluck and Thaksin. There are plenty of "normal" everyday citizens in Thailand that want to vote for their leader. AKA a democracy.

There's also quite big numbers of Thais, from all provinces, all age groups, all professions, all levels of education who know that unless there are serious comprehensive reforms then vote buying and unaffordable populist polices will win the elections again, and keep Thailand buried in last century with no development and just keep corruption at super high levels.

I don't understand why the reds waited so long to start protesting in Bangkok. I mean, they waited until Suthep dismantled their government before they decoded to do something about it. So now they are.having a rally on the outskirts of Bangkok, which is going to achieve very little. I wonder if there is something going on behind the scene we're not privy to?

I feel reasonably safe that if it comes to armed opposition that Jatuporn is calling for the army will crush him.

It just is not going to happen, just because the police are so corrupt and inept does not mean that law and order cannot be enforced once the decision makers decide to act. Its a lot a bravado but 5 days on, shin no 4 kicked out and the reds are floundering around. The military have a long and successful history of cracking down ruthlessly when required.

All of this was predicted months ago... It has not been good for the country to have dragged this out so long.. The country needs political parties who govern for the good of the majority and nation, not for the scum in the shin clan who have asset stripped and amassed vast personal wealth for all of them, even the kids at the expense of all thais and foreigners for that matter.

Apparently, they have let the left hand service road remain more or less open--so people can get into their moobahns. They blocked them from their homes last time. But that also means the crowd is not as wide across the road as last time.

Also I don't believe they got ten's of millions in the last vote.

I have yet to see any one other than the PTP red shirts saying there will be no elections.

So far Abhist has come up with a plan that will call for a vote and Suthep is proposing a plan that will come up with a vote.

Just not on the day Thaksin wants them.

I find it highly interesting that Suthep and Abhist both want to reform the government and the PTP red shirts do not want to.

These repeated warnings of dire consequences from the red shirts have a whiff of desperation about them. They are in a corner and seem to know this. They have lost the battle of numbers because their core support is not motivated and seems divided. The momentum and the passion is with the other side. If the army took over tomorrow i doubt there would be much more than a few squeals. Time will tell i suppose.

Having been in a country where there was a military takeover (where I lost relatives) and having lost civilian relatives in a civil war in another SE Asian country I must admit that I am not keen to lose anymore relatives. In both of these SE Asian countries civil rights have not been restored to the level that currently exist in Thailand. So please excuse me for not sharing your enthusiasm.

Having lived in a country where a world war was fought and millions died to protect freedoms so that you and I could travel, live and have freedom let me state that democracy has been FOUGHT for... yet they fight AGAINST it here

Yes majority of people - that's why so few people turned out for the Feb election is the areas where they were not interrupted or blocked - even in Red areas. It is illegal not to vote here, yet such a low turn out - and how many of them "no votes" no one really knows!

The only thing to draw from this is that mass apathy for politics - and people think there will be even feeling for a civil war! yeah right!

They tried that in 2010 but it didn`t go to well.

Wow, last time I was there, was April 5th and it was a low density crowd, that peaked for the evening speeches at 50k.

Yeh, I was at that rally. I was about 700m from the front stage on the left (I'm the one in red ), sadly this also meant I was away and didn't have a computer and internet. I've only had full internet for the last few days, and been on 3G smartphone.

Peak was about 8:30pm-10pm on first day, I estimate about 50k (based on density, it was a 1.25km road, with about 2x25m wide sections, so lets say 20m+20m to allow for a bit for stalls and toilets. Low density crowd, the Bangkokpost and Nation drone photos look like a high density 4/m2 but that was density near the front stage and each of the repeater TV screens, between these it was sparse, so overall go for the low density 1/m2 = 1* 40*1250 = 50k tops.

There were some in the park, and some in the east side of the road, but I'm taking those as 0, well at least small enough not to significantly affect a total.

During the quiet of Sunday afternoon it was sparse, 5k to 10k tops. That group was the people who came from Issan, Chiang Mai and some from the South. They had come far for the whole weekend and were camping in the park. During the night it filled up with Central and Bangkok folk (I ask about 20 people, none were Burmese or Cambodia).

Now it's 6pm and it's already full and far far denser.

Impressive, albiet inaccurate and manipulated, figures. Your figures are based on 4ppl per sq. meter-this is considered thr extreme high end of standing crowds. Realistically standing crowds usually range from 3 to 3.5 and that is at their most dense areas, never averagef across the entire area. Also, considering that most people would be seated, you could probably at most get 2 - 2.5. Changes your figures quite drastically. I posted a map about the Democracy protests done by a company - different zones had different REAL densities and unless you can produce something along those lines, you should keep your backseat analysis to yourself.

This is a case where rich men send poor men's sons to fight and die for them to satisfy an insatiable greed for power and money. I don't personally know any Thai person who wants a war. But we do hear rhetoric from the extremists on both sides that is heading Thailand towards that end.
