The threads are getting longer and longer, but there seems to be one real positive about the interminable meanderings:

There is almost a noticeable movement towards an understanding of the necessary terminology.

What is a visa, and where does one get it? Nope, not at the border, and it's for more than 30 days.

There is a visa exempt entry but that's not the same as a visa on arrival. Some posters have noticed that!

There is an difference between a visa and an extension!

This clarification has been long awaited. Far too many questions have floundered in the confusion over terminology.

Perhaps the main one lasting is "visa run." Usually, it doesn't mean getting a new visa from a Thai embassy or consulate in another country, but it's a border run, meaning crossing the border in order to return and get another visa exempt entry.

So, visa run = border run does NOT equal new visa!

Glad to see at least some recognizing just how important using the correct terms can be. biggrin.pngthumbsup.gifclap2.gif

gotta love thai logic. They must be sitting in the background laughing themselves silly as we struggle with these concepts and as we bicker amongst ourselves.

A lot of foreigners think Thai imm. is officious, random and only there to extract money.

They ought to put the shoe on the other foot and see how their OWN country treats people who just want to visit.

I'm talking about million baht deposits PER PERSON as well as sworn statements (and posting bonds in many cases) from the friends who must guarantee they will exit when their visit is over.

It took almost 6 months of wrangling and numerous trips to the embassy for my Thai friend to get visas for his teenaged kids to visit their overseas family, and then they only got FIFTEEN DAYS!

This is true and as long as there is a boat load of gamers that want to scam the system - all countries including Thailand - have to spend time and money on it and cause pain and expense to the ones that play by the rules. It is not the fault of the imm. and in some countries the problem of illegal stay and entry is far worse then those that Thailand faces.

If your stay here is complicated maybe your not suposed to be here in the first place - deal with it.
