BANGKOK: -- A decision on whether to demolish a Union Zojirushi factory in Bangchan Industrial Estate, which caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, will be made within a week.

Weerapong Chaiperm, governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) inspected the scene with forensic and disaster-prevention officials yesterday.

He said a team of engineers would take seven days to determine whether repairs can be made or if the building needs to be torn down.

They will also offer suggestions for better fire-prevention plans.

Min Buri superintendent Pol Colonel Kanchon Intharam said police believed the building might end up being torn down, as the fire appeared to have severely damaged its structure.

The fire was found to have started in the paint-spraying room on the third floor.

Separately, a pile of trash at a plastic-recycling factory in Rayong's Amata City Industrial Estate caught fire. The blaze was brought under control in less than an hour.
