JRSoul
Every single politician in Australia would be in jail if Australia had the same ridiculous laws. Not really. There are 2 exemptions to the defamation laws - parliamentary privilege and court evidence statements (IIRC).

rubl
I'm a bit surprised about the 'suspended, on two years probation', but this case and the previous one for which Jatuporn was handed the same sentencing were probably more than two years apart. The defamation that is, not the court cases and the time it took to study, rule and sentence. This case from 2012 (I think), the previous case from 2009. 2012-09-27 "The Criminal Court Thursday found red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan guilty of defaming former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and gave him a suspended six-month jail term." http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/587352-jatuporn-gets-suspended-six-month-term-for-defaming-abhisit/ This was the appeals court, so is it the same case? The 2012-09-27 verdict seems to be on the same case. Now we had confirmation in the Appeals Court. Mind you there might still be an older case in the Appeals Court about a sentencing on 2012-07-10 which k. Jatuporn also said to appeal: "Thailand’s Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced former Pheu Thai Party MP and key Red Shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan to six months jail in regard to the defamation case over his comment accusing then prime minister Abhisit Vajjajiva of impropriety in an audience with His Majesty the King." http://www.chiangmai-mail.com/Update2012-News/news_July3.shtml

People in Glass houses shouldn't really be throwing stones Just what makes you think that one of Chalerms dolts or one of the powers that be are not already reading every post? Not a very good assumption.Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Where is there any assumption in my post? or are you referring to the "IF" part? Maybe I'm not connecting the dots here? or do you mean it's an assumption that TVF members would be behind bars? of course it is an assumption, as the defamation laws are stupid, that's the point. It's like trying to sue MacDonalds for being fat after you've eaten 3 1/4 pounders with cheese, 2 fries, and 2 larges cokes to go.!! The reference to people in glass houses isn't an assumption either, as all one needs to do is look at the anti Thaksin group and the anti Suthep group, and see that there's a group of individuals on both sides who use terms like "terrorist", "fascist", "Thug". "murderer" who in my opinion are openly defaming Abhisit, Suthep and Thaksin, amongst many others, calling people murderers, and terrorists who haven't been convicted is a defamation, and I'm very surprised that TVF doesn't clamp down on it, but then again, the posts wouldn't be so "entertaining". Anyway, it's all moot, Jutaporn isn't in Prison, the laws of the land and the courts decided that, and it seems to gall some of the members that he's not behind bars. The court in this instance didn't see the need for a custodial sentence.. get over it, as I'm sure there will be other opportunities arising for that!!! But you can sue Mc Donalds if you drop hot coffee in your lap!Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
GoodThaiGirl
But hopefully a lot more to come yet. Just hope the military have the balls to push ahead irrespective of any flak likely to come from a few and round up all the leading trouble makers, those promoting and assisting in violence and get them to a military court on charges of murder, instigating murder, attacks on mainly peaceful protesters etc. The only way to clean up the mess is to completely remove this scum once and for all from all contact with the vunerable easy lead sheep they have been using for years for their dirty work. And while they are at - an international arrest warrant for the fugitive and convicted criminal Thaksin would be something worth doing ASAP before he has time to find a bolt-hole somewhere like Chad, Niger, Somalia when no extradition treaty exists with Thailand. I completely agree! It's about time all those people who took the airports hostage a few years ago were given prison sentences. And the "easy lead sheep" are finally out of Lumpini Park, so it should be easy to herd them into jail. Good work Artisi! Keep the faith and we'll clean up this country together! I guess there are many to choose from, he has defamed just about everyone not aligned with the Shin clan at some point or other. come on with his big mouth something about to happen soon

What country are you in???? suthep is running around free as bird? he is wanted for MURDER> Because thaksins lapdog DSI agreed to process the charges. In cases like this in 2010, with rabble burning & looting the town the government had to act or the insurance companies would be lodging charges of failing to act. Under such circumstances and provocation no PM or deputy PM could be convicted. The charges are a PTP sideshow and will come to nothing. Stop mentioning it like it is a big deal. The real danger is if you say it too many times you will actually start to believe it is a real charge for real murder. You know it's not!!!! Emster23
For all those who supposedly wish to reform Thai government, let us hope that they include freedom of speech and the press in the package. Dear Abby.... the "rational" one in demo camp.... could have dropped the case, but didn't. The press is gagged, debate is stifled. Get rid of ALL those laws related to making public one's viewpoint on whatever subject. Oh, btw, the Colorado item that somehow equates USA laws with Thailand: there is a big difference between being charged (as in that situation) and being sentenced (here and Peru for example). The ACLU would be keen to help defend against those "19th century" laws.

After being accused by UDD co-leader Jatuporn in January/February 2010 of having ordered the army to shoot some red shirts? Propaganda which seemed to refer to a fake tape from Songkran 2009 with "kill me some"? Propaganda to spread hatred, to spread the lie of 'illegal' government. Lies to help incite red-shirts.
