Grenade attack in dance party kills 1, injures 5 in northern Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A man threw a grenade into a dance party Friday night in northern Kampong Chhnang province, leaving an old man dead and 5 others seriously injured, a local police chief confirmed Saturday.

The accident occurred at 10:00 p.m. local time in Teuk Pos district, about 90 kilometers north of capital Phnom Penh, said Hem Vibol, chief of Teuk Pos district police.

"As villagers were enjoying dancing, a man hurled the grenade into the ceremony," he told Xinhua. "It exploded and killed an old man and seriously injured five others."

A suspected man was arrested two hours after the attack, he said, adding that revenge was behind the attack.

"It was not a terrorism act, but revenge," he said.
