Ubon Hash House Harriers - "The Outside Inn" - 4:30pm Saturday 7th June

The next Ubon Hash 'run' will take place on Saturday 7th June and will kick-off from, and end at, "The Outside Inn", which is on the Eastern edge of central Ubon. Many of you regular Ubon hashers will know this guest house+bar+Mexican-Thai restaurant, now highly rated by Trip Advisor (No 1!) and some of you will recall that we had a great run and afters at Outside Inn about a year ago when it had only been running a few months.

The 'run' (run/walk) should be a mix of suburban and fringe of town woodland, if it goes to plan (plotted only on Google Earth so far!). There will be a beer stop and your usual hash fee will cover some free and tasty Mexican snacks/nibbles on return. Some, including me, may well wish to use the restaurant facilities later.

Meet for the run at Outside Inn 11 Suriyat Road for a 4.30 pm prompt start (or earlier if you want to buy a pre-run beer from the bar). It's a good idea to bring along the map from The Outside Inn website, http://www.theoutsideinnubon.com, so you can recognise the place when you go past it. Alternatively here are their direction instructions (slightly tweaked by me):

One of the easiest ways to get here is by Sapphasit Rd, the road that starts at Central Mall on the west side of town and runs east through town, passing by the police station and the large public hospital. Proceeding eastwards, one kilometer past the hospital main entrance, Sapphasit Rd ends directly in front of the entrance to Wat Si Pradu. At that ‘T’ junction, turn left. Go 100 meters to a 4-way intersection and turn right. The Outside Inn is ahead on the right, 100 meters from the intersection.

There will also be a pickup from N-joy Bar at the far western end of Phalochai Road at 4pm.

Hashing is social 'running' and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken too seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white flour/chalk and the pack must find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! Although hashing has been described as a 'beer drinking club with a running problem' you will find that we are not drunken lunatics and quite sociable really!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first outing and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais and cheaper again for under 17s - and the fee includes several free beers afterwards, often a beer stop during the run and occasionally even some snacks.

Dam_n. You blew my plan and you're not even a hasher!*

I was going to be looking at running across the dry bed at some point, since it is unlikely to be a repeatable trail

*As far as I know.

Yes, nothing has changed regarding the house.

We are just on our annual pilgrimage to the UK.
