June 3, 201411 yr I am not far off having to get new brake pads (front only) for my CB 500 X. I have done around 10,000 kms. Any idea what Big Wing are charging for parts and fitting? If you ask them direct before arming yourself with knowledge, you could get any kind of whacky answer from the Pattaya lot (lovely though they are).
June 3, 201411 yr Pair of brake pads should be about 250 - 300 baht - fitting takes 10 mins. (edit) Any shop can do it.
June 4, 201411 yr Author Pair of brake pads should be about 250 - 300 baht - fitting takes 10 mins. (edit) Any shop can do it. For a Honda Wave and other small scooters, yes. But for a CB 500 X, "any shop" won't have the parts and the pads will cost a lot more than Honda Wave pads. Do you have a CB 500 and have you changed the pads? I was hoping for real experiences from CB 500 owners.
June 4, 201411 yr If your interested in good pads you can write the EBC distributor here in Thailand Gavin Charlesworth [email protected] He was quick to ems me a set of their sintered HH pads He also has the less expensive organic type pads You can install as I did or sure to find a place to do it for you cheaply
June 4, 201411 yr It would depend on the application too. For a street and touring use, a good organic pad would be the way to go. Sintered pads will wear the discs really quick. Also, would be ok for the CB500 to use a sintered pad? There is also the semi-sintered pad http://ebcbrakes.com/product/sintered-brake-pads/ which seems quite a good compromise. Read: What is sintered http://ebcbrakes.com/what-is-sintering/
June 4, 201411 yr I had the front pads replaced before at Big Wing BKK and it wasn't very expensive. Don't think it was 1770 as quoted above.
June 4, 201411 yr Author I had the front pads replaced before at Big Wing BKK and it wasn't very expensive. Don't think it was 1770 as quoted above. Thanks for the reply. Indeed, that was what I expected. You clearly have not had the pleasure of dealing with Big Wing Pattaya and their "spontaneity". If you could dig out the receipt / price you paid, that would be great.
June 4, 201411 yr Sintered pads will wear the discs really quick. While that may be true of cheaper pads it is not true as a blanket statement It is certainly not true of EBC Sintered HH pads EBC has removed irons from pads that other manufacturers use to save $$ & replaced those with Stainless powder The HH pads use copper powder Also note that 99% of all motorcycles come stock with some form of sintered pads from the OEM Albeit maybe not quality ones But I do agree with you that most folks will be more than happy with organic pads that EBC sells. Just depends on how you ride & what you want from your brakes One note for OP....DO not look for the cheapest brakes you can find Brakes & Tires are areas that money is well spent on the best quality for your situation.
June 4, 201411 yr Don't know if this will help you but i paid 1100 hundred for front and back on my CBR 250.
June 5, 201411 yr Author This thread hasn't really come up with much interesting yet. Is there anywhere else in Pattaya, other than Big Wing, who might have the parts, tools and expertise to carry out this routine task? Hope someone can advise.
