Thanks for the name calling. Without it, I wouldn't know I'd been zinged. And not just by anybody but by someone who "did go to the same culinary school as Anthony B. and have shared many of the same experiences separately, if you know what I mean. I've seen his shows and read his books and am a fan, especially of his show "The Layover". So purely as conjecture I feel we most likely feel similarly on many food subjects.." Wow, it's virtually like being on a receiving end of a riposte from the great man himself. But, if you want to be even more like him, you might try losing some of that sense of self-importance.

If you join us Cobrasnake it might just catch on (sans the tiger nuggets thank you very much). It actually would be fun to having a group (not as organized as a club) that does progressive dinners, any themes or whatever people want. It's like foodie bar hopping!

I would hope that included all of the alcohol they were drinking too. One thing about that show, he's not afraid to partake to the point of even slurring his words a bit.

Having watched the show, I thought that guy was kinda lame myself. I can't really explain why - because he obviously had some knowledge of the food and the culture - just seemed like maybe it wasn't very recent, maybe? I dunno. Just a feeling I had.

Well, I took his recommendation for restaurants in Chiang Mai here from a newspaper interview and they were all great. He knows northern thai food.

That would be an interesting tour company theme.

Drive people around to eat exotic meals and drink moonshine.

End up at the night safari for Tiger nuggets wrapped in bacon.

Call it bizarre foods Chiang Mai etc.

Great idea, but it would be a smart to have anyone brave enough do do it to take an anti parasitic and maybe antibiotics before and after and have them sign a waiver of non responsibility to the 'tour company' and for sure, make sure they have designated drivers.

A bowl of khanom jin should not be $17 (544 baht) anywhere.

IMHO as I haven't eaten there I have no personal opinion.

The cost of rent is slightly higher in NYC than CM as well as labour and many other costs that aren't even a factor here such as kitchen sanitation requirements (hands sinks with rounded corners in exact maximum distances from each other for an example), insurance and don't forget taxes and licenses which all must be factored into the menu prices. So one cannot compare a restaurant check of the same dish from there and here without also calculating the real costs involved.

I'm personally not familiar with a newspaper interview with Andy Ricker (but would love to read it if the poster would generously supply a link) but I'll repost a link to an article about a progressive food adventure he took a journalist on here.

After reading it I went to each of the restaurants and enjoyed them all, some for the food, others more for the experience. I've suggested that the TV progressive dinner also include a few of these as well as anywhere we decide as a group to try.

Here's another article about Andy Ricker in our own Citylife Chiang Mai magazine from this month where he discussed "retraining his palate" and continues that he "recreate dishes simply by tasting them". This is a very interesting write up if you care for his persona or not (like someone else we know??) as it deals with some interesting subject.

Funny coincidence that not 30 min after my previous post this morning Andy Ricker contacted me and we chatted.

Hopefully next time he's in town he'll join us on a restaurant jaunt around Chiang Mai.
