Melons

Featured Replies

I have been trying to confirm the names of the following melons and if someone could confirm whether or not these are correct, I would appreciate it:

Musk Melon

แตงไทย TAENG THAI

แตงกิง TAENG KING

Honeydew Melon

แตงหวาน TAENG WAN

Cantaloupe

แตงแคนตาลูป TAENG KHAENTALUP

I am particularly unsure of the translation for the Honeydew Melon.

Thank you for your help.

The world you're looking for is นม.

Dear wprime,

Thank you for your reply. Do you mean:

1. The Thai words for Musk Melon and Cantaloupe are correct.

2. The Thai word for Honeydew Melon is แตงนม TAENG NOM and that TAENG WAN is incorrect.

3. Both TAENG NOM and TAENG WAN are correct.

I appreciate your help.

I think he was just making a joke- นม = breasts.

Like melons as breasts...

I've seen honeydew referred to as แตงหวาน before although I've seen แตงฮันนี่ดิว as which translates as DTAENG HONEY-DEW.Which would be simpler and easier I guess.

Dear Rumblecat,

Haha. Thanks for your explanation. I will list Honeydew Melons as TAENG WAN and also TAENG HANNIDIO.

Can you confirm whether or not the words I listed for Musk Melon and Cantaloupe are correct or not?

Thanks for your help.

From what I've read (and I'm only going by trusted dictionaries) you can just shorten cantaloupe to KHAENTALUP - or you can keep the TAENG in there if you want.

Checking different dictionaries it seems that แตงกิง TAENG KING is correct as well.

Enjoy your food :)

Dear Rumblecat,

Yes, I have noticed on some sites that they only refer to it as KHAENTALUP, so I will add that to my list as well.

Thanks for the confirmation on TAENG KING.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner too.
