Hello, I am 27 years old. I am an American from Philadelphia, and have been living and teaching in Chaweng for a month now. I am interested in meeting other teachers, or people around my age to hang out with. If anyone here knows of a place where a group of younger english speaking long stayers hang out I would greatly appreciate any info. It seems that most young people I meet are on a short holiday, and all the longstayers are in their 60's. I know that there are others like me here, I just need to find where they congregate. Thanks!

Most of the foreign teachers that I know of live, eat and drink in the Maenam/Bangrak areas.

Just look for a beach bar with a Happy Hour that is open after school finishes burp.gif

Seriously - I know of a group that sometimes stop off at Secret Garden Bangrak.

In Maenam look in the walking street area. (Sorry I do not know the names of the bars there - I am over 60 passifier.gif .)

When the teachers hit the bars in Chaweng - they are usually incapable of a sensible conversation in any language drunk.gifhit-the-fan.gif

Come on Teachers - tell the septic where you really drink.

Congratulations! You must be Samui's youngest temporary resident.

Excepting, perhaps, the thousands of Russians here - singlehandedly this group has lowered the average age of Samuiytes from 63.5 down to somewhere around 30.

So it looks like you can have either

1. Playmates of your own age with whom you won't be able to chat, or

2. Other teachers to chat with who won't be your age.

Seems like you're caught between a rock and a cleft stick, chum!

I don't agree with that, Mr Rob.... that these "30 something Russians" cannot chat... some of them are very nice and their English is pretty good... I find some of them more sociable than some other groups I could mention.... But they don't hang out in bars.... whistling.gif

Surely the average teacher here is less that 63.5 years old??? facepalm.gifblink.pngtongue.png

I think the OP here, just needs to check out some bars, as said close to the skools... Tropicalevo made a few suggestions^

No big problem - just curious - why do you use "septic' to describe Americans ?

seems like an odd word - just say-en.

Does it mean - like shit tank ?

Sorry - Cockney rhyming slang that us oldies use.

Septic - septic tank - yank

Plates - plates of meat - feet

Apples - apples and pears - stairs

Barclays - Barclays Bank - well - I think that you get the drift.

No offence intended to anyone - same as Aussies calling us Poms or Yanks calling us Limeys

It all comes from the days when people were not offended by light hearted humour and common sense, instead of the over-use of political correctness.

Only English language allowed on the forum.whistling.gif

Lunchtime today Trouble and I had lunch at the Premier Bar in Bangrak. (Trouble and Strife - wife) . 11 customers, and at least 8 of them were teachers. All young. From two different schools.

I understand that there were more teachers having lunch at The Shakespear pub on the Ghost Road - Bangrak!
