Thank's for the fast reply

One more question pleeease:

I read that being on overstay leaving per land ( and paying ) is possible.

If that is true, can the 30 day stamp changed to non-immi and extended (marriage or retired) ?

All I know so far is a international airport departure and return with a visa on arrival which can be changed to non-O later.

Am I correct ?

You can convert if you have at least 15 days left on your permission to stay. But If you are married to a Thai national, you can get an extension of 60 days.

During the last 30 days of that extension, you can apply for a conversion to a non-immigrant visa either based on marriage or on retirement. but might need to convert in Bangkok.

Thank you, Mario and Benq

The conversion from Visa on arrival (airport) to a non-immigrant (for marriage or on retirement) has been confirmed possible in Phuket.

May I ask again:

Can I leave per land border on overstay without problems or is an international departure per flight the only option?

Flying out is not the only option, but would be better as on the road you can be checked.

In your case, I would go to Kuala Lumpur and apply there for a non-O visa instead of doing a conversion. Especially with the crack-down on border runs and since you have an overstay I would get the non-O abroad.

I travel to land borders all the time but the army and police aren't interested in pulling over westerners and checking documents, provided they are driving their own cars/motorcycles or passengers in private vehicles. It may be different if you are a passenger traveling by public transport though. In any case an overstay situation is something to be avoided at all costs as it's risky and embarrassing.

You do not get a visa on arrival it is visa exempt entry.

Phuket only does the conversions based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon retirement. You would have to go to Bangkok (possibly twice) to do one based upon marriage.

It would be best to go to Penang and get single entry non-o based upon marriage.

You can pay an overstay fine at a border crossing.
