IsaanPools
Are you considering building an "in-ground" swimming pool? There are few things you should consider before you start. Ground work and preparations.Should you use beams, a slab or piles? In this case we are always better safe than sorry. This is a very important phase of the build and it is always better to go for the safer option. Concrete quality and additives. Most of the concrete companies around Thailand use medium quality concrete without water proofing additives, which with time can cause problems with your pool. Steel quality, steel size and how much steel is used. Many builders in Thailand use medium or even low quality steel to save money on a pool build. This is not recommended. It is very important to use the correct strength, size and amount of steel to get a pool that can hold for outside pressure, even if emptied on water. Basic elements and design of the pool such as filters, pumps, lights, overflow or skimmer and whether to use salt chlorination or regular chlorine systems and so on. Finishing touch.Do you use normal tiles, mosaics or even crackled glass tiles for your pool?Sandstone or other material for your pool-top? We at IsaanPools build high quality swimming pools according to U.K. standards and we can help you with all the questions you might have about your pool and build a problem free swimming pool at a reasonable cost, that will last for many, many years to come and for you to enjoy. Mainly we build pools in northeastern Thailand (Isaan), but we sometimes make exceptions for interesting projects in other parts of Thailand. Promotion for pools built (or contract signed) between 1. June - 15. September 2014: Free upgrade to "Zelbrite" filter media (up to 300 kg filter). Zelbrite is about five times more efficient than normal filter sand. jaideeguy
One very important consideration [in face maybe #] is that you failed to mention. HAVE YOUR SOURCE WATER CHECKED............especially for calcium. I didn't and have had constant problems with the calcium build up and balancing my water. One solution that I have found is to use rain water off your roof ......................when it is raining.
Rahat
Step 1: Decide How You Will Use Your Pool How will you use your swimming pool? Do you want to relax, participate in healthy exercise, or entertain friends and family? Step 2: Consider Financial Aspects of Pool Ownership You also need to consider the financial aspects of owning a pool or spa. If the pool is attractive and not highly specialized, it will be considered an asset. Step 3: Determine Your Yard Size and Conditions In addition to your yard's dimensions, consider your yard's slope, soil type and accessibility for construction equipment. Step 4: Design Your Pool Once you have determined the yard size and conditions as well as what your pool will be used for, you can begin to design Step 5: Consult a Pool Professional Consulting a pool professional is a good idea to help you determine which size and shape would be an ideal fit for your particular yard as well as determining possible maintenance costs in your pool. Step 6: Choose a Professional Builder It is very important when choosing a professional pool contractor to do your research. You should talk to at least three builders when getting estimates. When interviewing possible builders, determine the number of years they have been in business, ensure that they are bonded and insured, visit their work firsthand or ask for examples of their work, and determine if they subcontract the work or use their own staff. Step 7: Choose Your Equipment By selecting the correct pool supplies for your needs, maintaining a gorgeous pool all year round will be an absolute breeze. In addition to choosing maintenance equipment for your pool or spa, you also want to consider safety equipment. Many specialty safety products are available on the market, including water alarms, high-tech laser technologies, safety covers and personal safety accessories like life jackets and pool floats. IMHO
Is Fibreglass a better option if you are happy with the shape? If you have a read through all the threads where people are having problems with their pools, you'll find that they are all concrete construction. I'm yet to read a single post here in TH where someone had had a fiberglass pool turn into a money pit. So based on that alone, that leaves either fiberglass, fiberglass hybrid, or vinyl liner. If you're only looking for a small pool, <=12M x <=4.5M Fiberglass would appear to be the best choice. If you want a pool larger than those dimensions, it's either vinyl liner, fiberglass hybrid, or.... roll the dice on concrete & tile.. The biggest downside with Fiberglass is the lack of customisability, and a very, very small range in TH (it seems all vendors are sourcing from the same supplier). wonder6281
To be honest I'm surprised that fibreglass pools are so rare. True that designs are limited but the pool I'm looking to build is basically a rectangle so it doesn't bother me. Costs and maintenance are the main driver for my final decision so hoping for a response from one of the fibreglass pool dealers here.

I think domestic pools are just rare in general, so the selection of product and quality of vendors reflect that.

Anyone ever tried building a concrete pool, then covering it with fiberglass mesh instead of tiles? There is one vendor doing concrete/fibreglass hybrid pools - but not quite that way.... What they do is pour a concrete floor, but then use pre-cast fibreglass wall sections that are bolted and sealed together to make the desired shape. From there they appear to tile them out. Not sure how appropriate it is to post their name in this thread, but if you can recall the name of the Vegas casino with the famous fountains, that was main target in the Ocean's 11 movie, you'll know what to search for
