AC Cleaning Advice

Featured Replies

The AC unit in my living room is a Fujitsu ceiling mounted unit. The kind that has four vents in each direction. It's pretty large and used to work great to cool the room to whatever temperature I set it at and when it reached that temperature the compressor would properly cycle on and off. Perfect. Didn't matter how hot it was out.

It gradually started working less well and I had the "technicians" in to clean and service it.

They cleaned the bedroom wall mounted unit properly by dismantling it and using a pressure sprayer. However they claimed that they couldn't do that with the ceiling mounted unit and just sprayed some cleaner on the evaporator coils. They said that was good enough. Is that true?

They also did nothing to the two outside compressors. I thought they should remove the cover and properly clean the condenser by using the water sprayer. Perhaps check the amps that the compressor motor was pulling etc. Am I right?

They charged my landlord 600 baht per unit for the "cleaning" and 2500 baht per unit for freon! There idea of checking if it was cooling properly was to hold their hand up to it and say that it was cool. No thermometer.

The bedroom wall mounted unit is fine, but the living room ceiling unit is about the same as before. They are coming back tomorrow. Should I insist that they clean the outside units and clean ceiling mounted unit better? They claim it is not dirty. What should I have them check?

My landlord is no real help, but will spend whatever money is needed to get it working properly.

Thanks for your help.

When they come back tomorrow tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.

600 baht for cleaning acceptable but over the top, normal rate 400/500 baht includes topping up with freon.

2500 baht for freon, nothing more than a money making scam for them.

Suggest you walk outside tomorrow morning and head to the nearest lamp post, it will be covered with stickers advertising these services.

I live in Bkk and pay 400/500 baht for a/c service including topping up if required.

Oops sorry just read your final paragraph, your landlord is a mug, if you aint paying for it please discard what I wrote above.
