Will I be able to get one more tourist visa?

Featured Replies

I have a passport full of tourist visas and border stamps going back three or four years.

In the past 365 days I only have two single entry visas fro Penang.

I would like to get one more TV so I can continue here until october and then I plan to move to another country or go back to USA.

I would like to try Savannakhet this time. Have never been there before. Anyone know the way of thinking at at embassy well enough to know whether I could get a tourist visa there?

You should not a have a problem getting a visa in Savannakhet but be prepared to show some financial proof if they ask for it.

You can get a 2 entry tourist visa there if you want it.

By financial proof you mean 20k baht cash would be ok?

That would work or a bank statement even showing funds from outside the country.

i've been told that vientiane wont issue tour visas for people that already have more than 2 double entry tourist visas in their passport. all visa services refuse to take people on visa runs if they are in that category. not sure about svannaked location though. i'm in the same boat as the original poster of this thread. if anyone knows a visa service that is able to help, please tell.

I only reproduce what my visa agent told me two weeks ago.

We know, that the consulate in Savannakhet handled it relaxer when it comes to issue TV to peoples who got already several. Now they start to act stricter... like Vientiane.

May be someone can share his recent experience in Savannakhet.

The OP only has two single entry visas from Penang so he will not have a problem.

In the past Vientiane would allow 3 visas total issued by them and only denied a 2 entry but would issue a single entry instead.

I have seen no recent reports of Savannakhet changing their policies.

My experience, despite some posters here being sure to the contrary, is no - not if you have a passport full of entrances to Thailand. Savannakhet a year and half ago, told me absolutely no more than 1 ('maybe 2'). There were very forceful in saying so (US passport), and yes, had been much loser before that time. And that was before the now infamous crackdown of late. If that has changed suddenly, I'd love to know that.

You can do what I did, and simpy call the hotel/casino in Savannakhet to ask their opinion, before traveling there. Also, be careful about traveling there if you aren't absolutely sure, because since you do have a passport full of entrances to the Kingdom, stories are lately that you might likely be refused re-entrance, particularly by land. Someone even posted a day or so ago that their friend was denied re-entrance even with a new tourist visa, because he had a year's worth of entrances already.

In my case, I've found myself getting the 3rd degree for having a lot of tourist visas and entrances in my passport, even though I'm often outside of Asia for long periods each year - and even though those tourist visas are all years past now. There was a newsletter from a visa co. last year which stands out in my mind, saying 'this is determined by a visual first impression', and that is my experience as well. A lot of 'Thai stuff' in a passport, probably no to anything else at this time.

Don't be angry, someone, if you disagree. This is just what I've encountered, and had this all confirmed numerous times by the staff at Savannakhet, visa run companies, my own experience with border officials this year, and other people's experiences here. This is not a good time for tourist visas, unless you're clearly a first timer in the most obvious of ways.

There have been reports of people obtaining more than just 2 double entry TR from Vientiane, but then possibly only getting another single entry on their next attempt. But by all means, try Savannakhet as I hear they are a bit more laid back there, even though Vientiane was a breeze for me earlier this year.

I would also recommend going yourself rather than using a visa service (using a local Vientiane based agent might work out OK) but I wouldn't recommend using a Thailand based agent where you go with them on a trip to get your visa in VTE. Better would be to do it yourself and you'll probably face fewer hassles.

The casino no longer offers a visa service.

A year an half is is a long time ago.

The topic you mention about a person not being able to enter with a tourist visa has not been confirmed. The OP has not replied to the topic since posting it. It is possible he did not a valid visa or was trying to make a visa exempt entry.

So what happens if lets say you obtain a double entry tourist visa in the states then come to Thailand and your passport shows many tourist visas ( as much as 5) will it be scrutinized by the Thai boarder people?

It depends upon where they were all issued and whether the were done back to back or not.

Returning to your home country and spending even a small amount of time and returning with a tourist visa issued there would not be a problem when re-entering the country.

Having multiple tourist visas from nearby countries could be a problem but even making that trip home would help to break that chain of visas.

Always go ask visa run companies, they have the most up to date info. It is their business.

Thanks UB that's encouraging

I guess if in doubt one could always get a new passport? Wanted to avoid that but its starting to sound so iffy and uncertain any direction you turn these days.
