Man arrested in connection with major gambling den in Bangkok

RATCHABURI, 24 June 2014, (NNT) - Officials have arrested the owner of a well-known resort in Ratchaburi for his involvement in ‘Number One,’ a gambling den in Bangkok raided by police last week.

Officials yesterday questioned Mr. Akkachai Ployhin, the owner of Baan Suansomthip Resort and Spa in Ratchaburi, over his alleged involvement with the ‘Number One,’gambling casino in Bangkok, which was raided by police last week.

According to Secretary General of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Pol. Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, t Mr. Akkachai was known for his name-dropping habit, claiming to know local influential figures when carrying out his business deals.

Initially, Akkachai denied having anything to do with the ‘Number One’ gambling den, but admitted that he had lent 4.7 million baht to Mr. Wisit Satjapotnukul, the owner of Number One Driving Range Company Limited, to set up and operate the casino.

Akkachai will be handed over to the military. He will be charged with violation of the National Council for Peace and Order’s order on gambling prohibition.

In addition, the list of more than 100 gambling dens in Bangkok and more than 1,000 in the rural provinces has been submitted to Acting Commissioner General Police General Watcharapol Prasanratchakij for further investigation.

lets see just how serious they are about stopping all the corruption, this man should lose everything, same with all the others that are facilitating illegal gambling. All those calling for it to be legalized knew it was not allowed when they came here, same as drinking in some arab countries so you only have yourselves to blame if you want to bitch about it, you can always go to the resorts just across the border if you are that desperate. Having to gamble is like having to drink, not being able to control your own vices is a pretty pathetic excuse to complain plus you can always do it online if you are that desperate to blow your money. The sooner they close down all these illegal gambling dens the better, might stop a lot of the poorer thais losing everything they own to the corrupt owners.

Poorer Thais gamble amongst themselves mainly card games like bok daeng!

When the rice farmers were paid out I made the comment maybe they should wait till after the World Cup because the Thais go crazy over football.

No point in driving it underground it's been here from start and it's not going anywhere and people enjoy a punt on all sorts of things

Of course making it legal should come with the mandatory warnings of bet with you head but not over it etc however just have a look at Macau and Singapore .They are reaping the benefits not only from the taxes collected but from the money that spins off into the tourism industry.

Why did you allow her to gamble with everything of yours? I suspect this is a troll comment though, as you're still around, so she can't have lost everything of yours. Seems very stupid of you to let it happen, if it did.

Is it coincidence that this paragraph is included in the article about a Casino Boss being arrested?

"In addition, the list of more than 100 gambling dens in Bangkok and more than 1,000 in the rural provinces has been submitted to Acting Commissioner General Police General Watcharapol Prasanratchakij for further investigation."

I mean who gave them this information?

Whatever the army does to get these invitees, and others seems to be working.

Good work General.

Thailand should do like some other poor countries do, the only ones allowed in the casinos are the worker, like Paradise Island in the Bahama's. The exceptions would have to prove they could afford the loses. They can make 3 or 4 "Resort locations" with limited licenses, say 2 or 3 resorts in Pattaya, and the same in Bangkok and Phuket. This would create well over 10,000 long term jobs directly, good paying ones at that.

That's the whole idea. It's not some puritanical desire to rid the country of "sin", it's to stop the hundreds of thousands of victims being exploited for their money.
