Luis Suarez bite: Uruguay striker banned for four months

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been suspended from all football-related activity for four months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Fifa's independent disciplinary committee imposed the ban after finding the 27-year-old guilty of misconduct.
Suarez has also been banned for nine international matches, ruling him out of the rest of the World Cup.
The incident occurred during Tuesday's 2014 Fifa World Cup Group D game, which Uruguay won to qualify for the last 16.
More to follow.

I wonder how Liverpool fans are feeling now as it's them that suffer most from this.

That said, if someone was to do this in a Sunday league game there is a good chance they'd be arrested and could even go to jail.

Considering it's the third time he's done this, i think he's got off lightly with only

a 4 month ban from only football related activity.

It is in fact a criminal offence to bite someone intentionally and in a court of law

for a third time offender, they would probably serve prison time.

Or end up being sectioned under the mental health act.

I'm a bit confused, my normal state, about this, can Fifa order Uefa and the English FA to enforce this ban at their levels ?

Yes, Liverpool will suffer and will have to burn the midnight oil on this one.

It remains to be seen if any team will take a chance on buying him and if they do I'm sure the fee will not be near Liverpool's valuation especially if they make it clear they want rid of him

UEFA and FA are following FIFA, which is their parent org.

Suarez will protest the ban.

Can this mean the ban is put on hold until they have dealt with the protest?

The BBC are reporting he is on a private jet heading home to Uruguay where he is expected to receive a ' hero's welcome '.

Tbh as a Liverpool fan I blame Uruguay mostly for the ban's severity.

While he was here we did manage his behaviour in the last year reasonably successfully. And no one connected with the club condoned the Ivanovic bite

Uruguay on the other hand didnt give a toss and blamed everyone else but themselves. Personally would sue their FA for loss of earnings but from that lot we would be lucky to get one pound 75

I would not be getting directly involved in any legal proceedings but pragmatically the owners will be looking in to it because they could end up carrying the can for what the player did outside their control. Am not sure how responsible they could be held for that. But from my perspective they are going to have to buy in some more quality. No more lame excuses from that Walter Mitty CEO Ian 'what a big Harley I have got' Ayre and his legendary transfer negotiating skills

Wouldn't expect much public sympathy though. And have none for Suarez, I hope if the ban stands we won't be paying his wages. Selling him though, we wouldn't get value for him and we struggle with buying players, so not suprised we have ruled out doing that

4months off he can go and do a bit of fishing, see if he can get some bites himselfwhistling.gif

And he still receives his weekly salary?

How does this work?

How can some one physically assault someone, for a third time, in public, and get effectively a slap on the wrist ? At the very least he should be thrown out of football altogether .

What I find most distasteful about all this is the way people are getting behind Suarez as if he is some kind of victim.

He's let everyone in Uraguay down by getting himself banned and has disgraced football, but people gave him a hero's welcome.

I don't understand. Can you imagine the reaction in England had Rooney done the same thing.

I'm not sure. If he gets a four month ban and Liverpool still have to pay him then it will Liverpool who will lose out whilst Hannibal is effectively transferred to an 'inactive post.' smile.png

It can be confirmed that Suarez is guilty -- the Stumpy Cheat has come to his defence.

Displaying his usual ignorance and disregard for social norms, Diego Maradona has said that Suarez's ban is "like sending him to Guantanamo."
