High waves prompt evacuation of Thai south coastal areas
By Digital Content

TRANG, July 7 -- Residents affected by huge waves in the seaside Ko Libong subdistrict in this southern province have been evacuated to safer areas.

Some households were evacuated from their homes in Ban Lang Khao village in Trang’s Kantang district today after waves up to three metres high, struck the coastal areas, damaging sea dykes and flooding people’s houses.

The Trang governor previously declared four villages in Li Bong subdistrict as disaster zones after strong waves washed over more than five kilometres of shoreline and smashed into numerous homes.

Strong winds and high waves were also reported on Monday morning in Ko Libong, forcing about 50 small fishing boats and passenger boats to remain on shore. (MCOT online news)
