US Ambassador says US-Thai relations remain warm

BANGKOK, July 11 -- US ambassador to Thailand Kristie A Kenney emphasized to Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, deputy leader of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and air force chief, that relations between the United States and its close ally Thailand remain strong.

According to Air Marshal Monthon Satchukorn, Royal Thai Air Force spokesman, Ms Kenny met with ACM Prajin, who is overseeing economic matters, on Thursday at Royal Thai Air Force headquarters.

High-ranking RTAF and Foreign Affairs Ministry officials also attended the meeting.

Ms Kenny was quoted as telling ACM Prajin that both countries have enjoyed good relations for a long time while many major American firms have invested in the kingdom.

She suggested that amending certain trade and investment laws would be key to stimulating Thailand’s economic growth.

Several other issues discussed included how to reduce human trafficking and forced labour problems in Thailand. Ms Kenny told ACM Prajin that the US understood the problem as Thailand happened to be a transit point of such problems.

Accusing Thailand of continued human trafficking and forced labour problems, Washington on June 20 downgraded Thailand to “Tier 3” in its annual Trafficking in Persons report.

The US has accused the kingdom of allowing human trafficking, slavery and human rights abuses.

The US held Thailand on the Tier 2 warning list for four consecutive years and advised the Thai government to take action before implementing the downgrade.

During their conversation, ACM Prajin briefed Ms Kenny on why the military decided to take over the country on May 22 and further explained NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha's intention to achieve full democracy for Thailand within next year, said Air Marshal Monthol. (MCOT online news)

All of a sudden the US needs all the friends it can get. Russia, China, and Iran working against them. India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan working the other side. Saudis, Gulf states, and North Africa fomenting anti-American mischief. The French being the French. And, now, even the tamed poodle Germans getting upset. Not to mention the usual chaos and anti-gringo sentiment being sold south of the Rio Grande. Maybe some of the remaining Euro states are friendly, but none of them seem to matter much on the world stage anyway. Better take your friends where you can find them. Now, the Thai generals don't look so bad after all. In fact, I would say that it just might be the Thai generals who hold most of the cards right now. US might need to ingratiate itself somehow with them.

Governments have trading partners, alliances, etc. I don't think 'friends' is an official category.

Maybe you should stick to Facebook.

The US could be seeing the Thai Chinese relations as getting a little close :

China expresses continued support for Thailand

BANGKOK, 11 July 2014 (NNT) – The Chinese government has affirmed that China would maintain cooperation and support for Thailand regardless of the country’s political situation.

Full story: http://www.thaivisa....t-for-thailand/

Thai FM: China understands Thai situation, supports bilateral investment, invites Gen Prem to visit to mark 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties /MCOT

Oh Yes and I have been told the next printing of US hundred dollar bills will be in a different form to make them more convenient to use :

When you're a hammer everything looks like a nail. So, it stands to reason that when you're an ass/arse everything looks like toilet paper.

As for Fox News, even a broken clock is correct twice a day. (BTW, I don't watch FN)

So, to my point, which statement by zydeco do you take issue with. You should point them out instead of 'blanket' condemnation. You do not further the discussion that way. Sounds like you are an Obama lover. His inexperienced foreign policy has been a disaster for the world.

Well the comrade Erika (Merkels name when she was in the STASI) just pretend to be angry....a bit of a show for the population. But the real problem is that the populations in Western Europe gets very anti-america. Now the same as it was under Bush. That of course is a big risk for the USA because on any next vote somewhere a populist with some Anti-USA propaganda could win. To make all of the planet angry isn't a good idea....So better be friendly to Thailand.....In Saudi Arabia there aren't any problems with democracy as well.

Jesus Zydeco this one borders on Uncle Sam bigotry from the last century. Lets have a look at what you said:

* Russia You are probably right there but who the hell wants to cosy up to Putin ( with the exception of Ukranian separatists )

* China When have things ever been good between USA and China? ( apart from a brief meeting between Mao, Nixon and Kissinger in the early 70s )

* Iran Things are a lot lot better now that Mamuhad Adineajad [sic] and George W Bush aren't around any more.

* India What's up there? Have I missed something!

* Afghanistan What did you expect?

* Pakistan It's been better granted but with all those drone attacks it's not a surprise really is it?

* Saudis + Gulf states with the exception of the Saudi Govt's concern over the (very slow moving) thaw with Iran Which of these Govts have been openly hostile to The USA?

* North Africa apart from the attack on the embassy in Tripoli a few years back What info do you know which suggests the whole of North Africa is enemies with America?

* France This one pisses me off and is well basically a lie ( I'm a Brit who happens to like the French)

* Anti-Gringo sentiment South of the Rio grande Christ you make Cormac Macarthy's Blood Meridian characters look like Henry Fonda ( Great Book )

* Germany it has been better but once this CIA double agent /Tapping Merkels phone BS blows over It'll soon be forgotten.

* Your last point about the mending a few splinters in a bridge with the Thai Generals is relevant but inspite of a few garbage comments from Kerry I never thought the bridge between America and Thailand had been torched to the ground anyway.

Wow!!! Talk about head up the pooper.

But just for you.... everyone in the world loves the USA and all its dominence. No problems with the future or the USD or the economy or the fact that every man, woman and child in the US owes the rest of the world half a million USD thanks to your excessive printing of worthless bills.

The truth is.... enough of the world are sick and tired of the US and over the next 2 years I guarantee you we will be looking at a completely different global landscape both politically and economically.

Read my post before this one... This is not BS, it is happening now.

Also the link at the botom that shows this article is also very interesting. As a matter of fact I will paste it here just for you.

Just where is the US more popular today than it was, say, five, ten, or fifteen years ago? Ukraine? Philippines? Vietnam? Why does every American embassy or cultural center across the world look like a leftover entrenchment from the Maginot Line? Other countries don't seem to need these fortresses. I sure do hope Thai-American ties are still "warm." Otherwise, American expats might well find yet another door closing on them.

If you go to the previous post of mine, there is a link also at the bottom which lists all the countries that are getting together to pull the rug out from the US and the USD to end its global dominance and also mute their ability to have a foreign policy or ability to ever have any real influence over global affairs.

The countries Zydeca named are all pretty much included in the list who have signed the agreement to gang up against the US and there is very little doubt that as far as dumping the USD they will all be on board. Russia were not present, but I think it goes without saying that they will be included.

That really only leaves the EU and rest of the G20 nations and they are all going to sidle up where the economic power is, and that isn't going to be with the USA.

The US will be bankrupted, they have NO money once their currency falls and a huge debt they can't pay and zero credit worthiness. The country will go into sheer meltdown.

Fortunes will be lost and the world's largest mega-corps who have almost all of their capital in the USD will go down the tubes overnight.

The only thing the US will have is weapons, massive civil unrest and a recession that will eclipse the 1930's.

What left for them but to lash out with their military might????

with the whole world against them and nothing to offer... They will be friendless.

Could be less than 2 years away... the next G133 meeting is in September, by then it could be more like a G150+ meeting

She is talking about TPP, Trans Pacific Trade Agreement negotiated in complete secrecy along with a couple of others in the works and hidden from the public. Even the US Congress can't see the agreement and what tidbits they are allowed to see they are forbidden to speak or publish. A disaster 1000 times worse than NAFTA and and a corporate/plutocrat dream. The end of cheap medicine here and throughout Asia, the end of the internet, the end of environmental protections, the end of what is left of the working/middle class and the beginning of rule by multi-national corporations. Carrot and stick diplomacy and I would love to tell her and the Obama administration where to stick both the carrot and the stick, hope Thailand does. It will NOT help the average Thai in any way, shape or form. Keep GitMo open for those that really belong there.

All good points. The fact is that the US has been engaging is really silly, churlish, childish, petulant, non-visionary foreign policy for way too long. They always seem to be on the wrong side of the fence. Just look at what has been accomplished in both Iraq and Afghanistan. At least in Afghanistan there was a decent reason for going in. Iraq was a false war from the start, with ridiculous reasoning. And when you look at where the other countries are, that the US has been lending a hand to, when it comes to the utterly disingenuous push for "democracy", what can one say? Egypt, Libya, etc. What gross incompetence. No wonder their influence is waning. At least Hillary was competent. To look at Kerry fumbling around on the world stage is to witness the work of a fool.

Oh how lovely. Take note AUS/UK there is no need to cow tow to the US by wasting billions of your countries money which could be spent on health and education instead of fighting these pointless wars that have achieved zero to date except more angst toward the west. Thailand doesnt need to and they still have "Warm relations" with the US. Saddam and Bin are gone hooooray millions more to replace them how long shall we maintain this idiotic stance of forcing US style democracy on Islamic countries where this concept is totally alien? How much more of taxpayers money should we waste standing side by side with the yanks?
