Thailand and Latin America sealed a deal in developing alternative energy

Thailand and Latin America has cooperated together in developing the quality of alternative energy, aiming to reduce the amount of oil inports.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Kantathi Suphamongkhon (กันตธีร์ ศุภมงคล) said the joint venture is aimed at exchanging ideas and information on energy consumptions and ways of producing alternative energy. Dr Kantathi also said the joint venture will also lead ways to foster closer ties with Latin America. He said that this conference is attended by energy ministers, agriculture and cooperatives ministers, and related executives.

However, he informed that if Thailand can develop the use of alternative energy, Thailand can reduce the amount of oil imported from foreign countries by 34,430 million baht. The current value of the import is at 774,282 million baht.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Where is this country "Latin America"?

What exactly was the conference?

What countries attended?

The report is as wishy washy as the government's policy on alternative energy. :o

Maybe it was all Latin for them? Maybe some weired unimportant countries with weired languages (so neither Thai nor English), also difficult to remember and to write, so just Latin America....

You really can not expect that Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Kantathi Suphamongkhon knows all these unimportant countries per their name, or can you?

Why not? He's no simpleton so why are you sneering at him? Why not check the Foreign Ministry website instead, if you really care? It's all there.

Dr Kantathi has been to most of these countries and accompanied PM Thaksin on his visits to Brazil and Peru (not sure if he also attended the Apec meet in Santiago, Chile).

This is sloppy reporting by the PRD and should have been specific. The country is Brazil and these discussions have been going on for a long time. A delegation was here earlier this month. Thailand needs ethanol and expertise in using it. Brazil has both.

Thanks for the clarification.

Surely mentioning Brazil by name would have given the whole report more meaning?

Brazil is on many people's minds at the moment, with the World Cup. :o

Absolutely. No question about that.

Probably a translation problem or over-simplification of a technical report.

The Public Relations Department is rather prone to taking short-cuts and being vague instead of specific.
