can I enter with new passport while my non imm ed visa is on my old passport

Featured Replies

Hi....I am now holding a non immigrant ed visa that will expire on 9 Sep 2014. I am planning to go back home on mid august and come back at the end of august with a new passport. I will renew my passport at home as the embassy in bkk does not allow me to make a new one in bkk. Before I go back, I will surely apply for reentry permit which will be stamped on my old passport.

My question: will the Thai immigration in Don meuang let me in with the new and empty passport while my ed visa and reentry permit are on my old passport? Do I have to do something before I go back to make sure that my next entry is smooth? Thank you

If you have a valid multiple entry visa you show both passports on arrival to use the visa for entry and immigration will stamp your entry/permit to stay in the new passport.

If you actually have an extension of stay and a re-entry permit you show the old passport and you will be stamped in up to the date your re-entry permit is valid for. Then you would need to go to immigration to have your stamps transferred to your new passport.
