New visa rules, is it possible to make an extension and/or to cross the border?

Featured Replies

New visa rules, is it possible to make an extension and/or to cross the border?

I have 4-5 consecutive double entry tourist visas from Vientiane in my passport.

The current visa is on its first entry and needs to be renew in the end of August.

I have three questions regarding the new visa rules (which apply from the 12th of August):

#Will it be possible to make an extension (30 days) on say the 14th of August?

#Once the 30 days have expired, will it be possible to cross the border to Poi Pet as usual or would that incur an I/O stamp and denial of entry at the border when returning?

#Would it be advisable to enroll in a language course to get an ED visa now or would that be in vain? Alternatively, would it be better to opt for a work or business visa, perhaps registering a business?

Getting an extension at immigration no problem.

At the moment I would say no problem for another visa entry,

If you plan on staying longer than your current visa allows I would suggest you go the ED visa route.

ubonjoe, good answer.

Do you know anything about registering a business to get a business visa? Hard, doable, in between?

Ubonjoe

Is correct the sooner that you get the ED extension/visa the better. The challenge that you are going to run into is the number of dbl entry visas that you have.

It is going to be obvious to the Immigration that you are just getting the ED visa to stay in country so make sure that you get a top class language school and not a fly by night.

Also make sure you attend the classes and put in the effort. I am sure that your visa will be flagged and that they will check to make sure you are attending.

At least for the first year or so.

As to the business if you can afford it and are willing to pay for the 3 Thai employees that might be a better way.

The language school route is good but they have a few more hoops for yu to jump through one of which is how are you going to be able to afford to stay in the Country.
