Which Thai person do you most respect?

Featured Replies

For me it would be a few different police or soldiers I've met in different parts of the country, very dignified, seemed to know what they were doing, and willing to put their lives on the line for their country. And you?

Chuan Leekpai

Submaniac.  A charmer that one.   A prince among men.  His wisdom known far and wide throughout the kingdom.

My GF for putting up with me.  And then maybe her mother for always telling her she has to take better care of me and feed me better.

The old fashioned types are the best.

I respect any Thai willing to respect me for what I am as a person, not as a farang. That goes from the poorest farmer to the most influential businessmen.

But, substitute Thai and farang above to make that relevant in any country in the world....................wink.png

Respect !....At present it would have to be Prayuth and his team for the great effort, and consideration, they are giving to everyone in Thailand.

They have earnt it....thats for sure

Without a shadow of a doubt, his majesty the king, the best person ever to walk on this land...

My wife is the obvious answer (after 17 years and two kids - a true constant in my life). However, I guess you meant other than family, so I would say my school friend's father - a man that went to the UK with five quid in his pocket, working as a tester for Thai grain imports, and now, 30 years later, had a chain of restaurants, grocery stores, takeaways and property businesses - he is also a really nice guy that is happy to use his contacts to help others.

One person I have respect for is my mooban garbage collector. In a very menial job and looked down upon by many, he retains a warm smile and always greets me with a cheery "Sawatdi krap, Mr Wit." He calls out to me through the gate if I forget my garbage, and sometimes offers the usual casual lines like "rain today" or "bad traffic on Khao Talo". He's a nice guy, for sure.

Totally agree.

Anyone who dares to do this in Thailand, and has the courage to keep at it.

The Thai I respect most is..........hmmm...........can I get back to you on that?

any Thai willing to stand up for what they perceive as an injustice in their country, any Thai willing to not tow the proverbial line....Any Thai who has some idea about the way the outside world works and doesn't believe Thailand is the center of the universe. Thai's who go out of their way to learn, learn anything....another language, geography, world history....Any Thai who knows I have a name other than "falang." Any Thai who shows an interest in other cultures and ways of life, any Thai that understands that not every country is perfect, including their own and there are still miles to go before things truly are fixed...Any Thai who during Songkran doesn't ask me "how do they celebrate Songkran in your country?" Any Thai who has gone to jail for having the courage to speak their mind freely...including Joe Gordon, GIles Ungpakorn and Grandpa SMS....Any Thai who has made a worldwide contribution to Science, Literature, Peace...etc.....oh wait, there aren't too many of those now are there?
