Savannaket - 1st time travel

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys for sharing those infos, I assume the same day service works fine for ED visa also?

If so I could make it in ~36 hours that would be awesome!

DAY1

Flight BKK-MUKHADAN 15.10-18.30 (AirAsia fly and ride)

Sleep one night there

DAY2

Get the first bus to Savannaket 7.30-8.30

Apply for the visa 9.00

Visit, have lunch, relax

Get the visa 15.30

Bus back to Mukhadan 4.30 or 5.30

Overnight bus to Bangkok leaves 19.20 or 20.00 or 20.15

DAY3

Arrive in Bangkok 6.30

Got the 'O' visa (single) based on having child last week in Sav. Flew AirAsia though as mentioned in previous post had forgotten to book the 'Fly/Ride' service. Luckily we (my missus and I) could pay for this service at airport though it was under 500 baht each. We got dropped off at the border (Muk) at exactly 6pm and made our way over eventually into Sav via bus. Got Tuk-tuk to take us to a few hotels and ended up staying at something called Sabbai (can't remember name) - was a little pricey compared to other hotels but clean and comfortable for 1 night - 1,200 baht (about 10 mins walk from embassy). Next morning applied for visa, waited around in restaurant, got visa around 3pm (opened early) and straight back across to Muk again noting the bus across the bridge was a little crazy getting on - pushing etc and then being packed in like sardines but it was only for 10 mins.....

Got bus into Muk bus station and then mini van (60 baht each!) to Nakhon Phanom - stayed in random hotel for night, relaxed and then got plane to BKK next afternoon.

Considering it was 1st time here, the experience was actually quite good as I brought the missus and made a mini-holiday out of it though the 2 x separate graphic aftermaths of motorbike accidents witnessed on the way to N.Phanom was a bit sad to see.

If, like me you prefer to fly then it cost around 2,500 baht return p.p + 2 x nights hotel + various buses +food/drink and obviously visa costs. Not the most exciting of trips but quite good to see the area and would know what to do in the future for new visa.

Thanks again to all TV members for previous posts in helping have prior knowledge for going here!

When are they moving to an office complex?

It is same day for all visas.

They take baht but you may get Kip for change.

There has been a vague report about it opening but it has not been confirmed yet.
