Phuket beach vendors asked to contact NCPO as beach clearing continues

PHUKET: Individuals displcaed by the recent beach clearings all over Phuket will receive assistance, representatives of the National Peace and Order Keeping Council announced on Friday (August 1).

Army Capt Petcharat Tianjan, head of Civil Affairs Division at the Third Naval Area Command, said that the military has a plan to help vendors who have been affected most by the beach clearning. Complaints and information will be collected at all municipal buildings around the island until August 10.

In addition, Capt Petcharat insisted that they are clearing the beaches in Phuket with no bias. The beaches, namely Patong, Kamala, Surin, Nai Harn, Nai Yang, Nai Thon, Sai Keaw, Kata, and Karon, have been all but cleared of businesses that were illegally operating.

Capt Petcharat said that police continue to receive complaints from people that other small beaches have not been affected, namely Paraside and Freedom beaches.

“Every beach we deal with, we try to manage it according to the law. Each beach has its own law,” he said, explaining the reasons for why each one has a different timeline for ridding them of illegal businesses.

“If [said beach] is in a National Park, we use the National Park Law. The beaches that are under Or Bor Tor, they are under Act of Building and Construction Law. So the length of demolishign time is different in the process (depending on the law). The ones that are waiting for the court to judge, they must wait for the court process.

“You will see that each beach has different law. So some places may have taken down but some still stay. But it doesnt meant there's not going to be a demolition. I insist that any public land encroachment must be stopped.

"We will be fair with everybody and will do the same in every beach,” he said.

He is wrong.At the moment each beach has but one law, martial law.

And that's a good thing because prior to this nothing worked. Now...results.

All of these vendors have already borrowed money from loan sharks to survive as reported in a recent article.  By September there will be people starving if real assistance is not forthcoming.

 

And has trisara, pullman, bliss, white haven or any of the other big dollar operations on the beach been shut down yet?....

Nope, just your common, or garden variety drama queen.

How long is this "assistance" going to sustain them for?

 

Will any of them be looking for work, or just waiting for the Army to leave Phuket?

 

What qualifications and experience, if any, do these "vendors" possess?  Are they going to retrain and redeploy them to other employment?

 

What long term benefit does this "assistance" provide?

 

What will these people do when this "assistance" is eventually cut off?

The plan is that a percentage of the tax they paid will be refunded, they did pay tax didnt they? 

They're going to receive assistance because their businesses operating illegally on public land were removed? Okay, good luck with that. 

 

Unemployment on Phuket is very low. Resorts are always looking for people. Don't plead poverty on Phuket. There is a job if you want one. Maybe not as lucrative as the illegal beach business.

 

I realize that the people making the money were the officials in charge of protecting the beach, who were selling it off. They should be prosecuted.
