webfact
Liberia to receive Zmapp drug to treat Ebola virus (BBC) Liberia will receive an untested experimental drug, Zmapp, to treat people infected with Ebola, the Liberian government says. The move came after a request to the US from Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the government said. The news came as medical ethics specialists met in Geneva to explore the use of such new treatments. The World Health Organization, which is hosting the meeting, says some 1,013 have died from Ebola in West Africa. "The experimental drugs are to be brought in the country by a representative of the US government later this week," a statement on the Liberian president's website said. However, US government officials said its role had been to put Liberian officials in contact with Zmapp maker Mapp Biopharmaceutical.Full story: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28749615 [bbc]2014-08-12[/bbc]

puipuitom
When I have to choose between: no medication, you are dead for sure in .. 10 days ... OR.. it seems we have a drug what might work.. maybe you are dead in 2 days, maybe.. you are cured, but.. no idea what happens after, maybe.. you get a green skin .. I accept the medication with all risks involved. On this way, in the 19th century, all medicins got their first trial. And yes, the company who invested a LOT of research wants to see some revenu. How much for a poor country like Liberia ? Maybe "fear" money form the wealthy West ?But imagine, no farma co has done any research... we had now nothing. Credo
I hope that it goes to medical centers that can administer the drugs well and under sanitary conditions. Many hospitals don't even have running water.
F430murci
a dream come true for shareholders NASDAQ: TKMR shares increased by 80% in the last 5 days! Yes. I have been on this one. Down almost 20 % today to $ 19.XX and analyst forecasting drop back to $ 15.XX. I got out at $ 21.XX and think I left some on the table at $ 25.XX. This stock was at $ 31.XX a few a months ago so this is no panacea for shareholders, just a moment of wild speculation by those of us thinking people would jump on board just to ride a quick up spurred by a bit of publicity as opposed to actual company earnings or estimated earnings. Hope others covered or had a stop loss on this one on its way back down and market will tighten, limited buyers and you may get stuck. ZMapp is manufactured RAI on the NYSE though and is not doing so well either . . . Edited August 12, 2014 by F430murci
