Chinese Tourist Allegedly Assaulted, Robbed By Taxi Driver

By Khaosod Eng

PATHUM THANI — A Chinese tourist says she was assaulted and robbed by her taxi driver en route to Don Mueang Airport in northern Bangkok today.

The tourist told police officers via an interpreter that the taxi driver picked her up in downtown Bangkok and then drove to a secluded area near the Motorway in Pathum Thani province, where he stopped the car repeatedly punched her in her stomach.

The victim said she managed to run away, leaving all her belongings in the taxi, and sought help from a police patrol car that was driving along the Motorway.

When she led police officers back to the spot where she was reportedly assaulted, the taxi was gone. She had left her cash, plane tickets, clothes, and bank account book inside the car.

The driver was described as a tan-skinned, overweight male wearing a t-shirt. The victim said she could not remember the license plate number or colour of the taxi.

Police say they have contacted the Embassy of China in Bangkok and are investigating CCTV footage in the area to locate and arrest the suspect.

good luck to the police!

if this were to happen in China, the taxi driver would have been nabbed within 24 hours!

from what ive heard from thai people a lot of them, i usally try to use the buses then you only have to contend with the pick pockets

If this story gets picked up by the Chinese media....

That happens when ex convicts drive taxis in Thailand. Many of them have been in jail.

my wife and i used four taxi's in Bangkok last year while registering our marriage, one was a crook he

deliberately took us to the wrong place even though i told him i knew what he was doing, another was

on ya-ba and would of won any gurnning contest with his rolled back eyes and foaming mouth, the other

two were ok but it still works out with all the cabs that refused to take the fare more than 50%

were dodgy, not good odds when you have to use them.

this was not long after the american expat living in Bangkok was murdered by a samurai sword carrying

taxi driver, so no i didn't make to much of a fuss.

I guess the Junta cracking down on Taxi driver was not very effective. i hope with Prayuth as Pm now that he addresses this very big problem and gets all the drivers legitimate. I am certain once this story is told in China it will affect the flow of Tourism from China to here.

Anyone here fluent in Chinese languages had a look at the Chinese websites or news sites?

Check the driver's license - notice it's often someone else's license (especially at night)!!

What's the fine for that?

^^^

We had an incompetent driver at Suvarnabhumi and hehad no clue as to how to get to some huge industrial zone near the airport. (Had the Thai caompany's number and a manager talked to him repeatedly).

No "London Black cab tests" over here, huh? Just hop in and start driving. No need to know even the 5 largest industrial areas in town. Jesus!

i checked. There still no online news about this. maybe latter....

Check surveillance at the airport for when the lady arrived. Just an idea?..

Yeah, I have been trying to find an old girlfriend of mine; she is about 150-160cm tall, dark complexion, speaks with an accent. Surely, you have seen her.

I alway write down the taxi number, asap, when I jump into a taxi. And if the license is there, that also. Put your phone on silent and snap a picture.

Based on comprehensive research right?
