Eye-Infections / CadexCin-N Drops

I meant to share this for a while. With plenty of painful or at least unpleasant eye-infections often during rainy season, tropics are the ideal place to get them, I would like to share a very good and affordable medication / eye-drops.

A conjunctivitis is usually very contagious, don't wipe your eyes with towel, wash hands frequently, use one time tissue to clean secretion. Here an infection is often mixed viral/bacterial. Some of these bugs are hard to get rid off. Most medications contain similar active ingredients and prices can go all the way to 400 Baht per bottle.

I have used this medication very successful for many years, so have many friends and people I told about. I always keep a bottle handy in the fridge and am happy to give it to anybody I see suffering. For some reason it seems to work VERY well in very short time. 2 drops every 4-6 hours in the infected eye and twice 1 drop in non-infected eye. Might burn slightly for a moment. Usually fast relief within one day and healing within 3 days. If no success go see doctor! This is a very cheap brand / 45-50 Baht!!!! & hard to find, as they prefer selling 300 baht imported stuff. But can be found, if you shop around. Usually the pharmacy / lady on second Rd. just on top of Soi Diamond carries them. Also the pharmacy next to Tim a Gogo. Warning, any products containing steroids should NOT be taken for a prolonged time. So use it only when needed, not just to relief your dry eyes.

Further..You can also use them as very good ear-drops!

Picture here, with outrageous price! http://www.amazon.co.uk/CadexCin-N-treatment-periocular-inflammation-infectious/dp/B00EGJ05RE

Hope this helps a few. MS>

My two dog Have yelow matter every morning at bottom of eyes,Usualy comes out when they shake there heads. Any one know if it would be ok for dogs. dont want to do any damage

Hi Derek

No, you should not use human medicated eye drops in dogs or cats. Some human meds are OK., some are not. If the eye of your dogs is red, infected and you actually think it is pus / bacterial nature, you should get some drops from a vet clinic. If you feel it is just secretion, built up over night, get some plain saline solution at any pharmacy, no need to buy saline eye-drops. You can add a couple drops of Betadine to it and open the eye of your dog with 2 fingers and just flush it carefully. But, if you feel it is an infection, the secretion has some smell to it and looks yellowish slimy, better get some vet eye drops. I love dogs and animals and hope you can "fix" them soon. Good night. The strength of which obviously will be stronger for human, but I have used it successfully, and anti-biotics in low doses, plus skin ailment medication be it bacterial or fungal, in fact as it is soi dogs I treat the vet points me in the pharmacy direction to obtain drugs for cats or dogs

I learned a painful lesson when I was in my first year here

Like you I had an eye infection, I went to the Pharmacy who gave me eye-drops (label written in Thai...obviously)

Went home administered the drops..........resulting in severe pain.......tried washing my eyes out with bottled water....went to bed and kept my eyes closed.....(in hindsight should have gone to the hospital)......

When my eyes were less irritated...Googled ....the product....guess what....I had been given "ear-drops"

We complained to the pharmacist......who just shrugged her shoulders

Lesson painfully learned........you only get one pair of eyes

Go to the Hospital

ps And I will add......since then my vision has become like through steam.....more noticeable at night time...... obviously the lense were damaged

If you check the link these are also ear drops - dual use. Personally would not self treat eye infections having had several severe cases when first here over 40 years ago - for whatever reason have never had again.

Just a heads up for those living in the lower Issan area.

Conjunctivitus or Red Eye (Tar Dang) is doing the rounds. So much so that even the pharmacy wholesalers are having trouble keeping up with eye drop demand. The normally well stocked shelves in a large Ubon wholesaler were nearly bare last week. My local pharmacy is going through 5 times its usual amount.

The standard treatment is small bottles of eyedrop with a blue or brown label depending on what treatment is required.

is it really some bad thing or just dried liquid after sleeping (which also humans have) in some bigger amounts?

Would ask a vet first. While most medications are interchangeable with most animals some are fatal. Also dosage might be different.

I would caution against self-prescribing this. it is a mixture of antibiotic and steroid. Steroids will aggravate viral and fungal infections if present (and the antibiotic will have no effect in that case). See an opthalmologist.

Good point, however most cases of conjunctivitis are of viral origin, in tropics often developing into a combination viral/bacterial. Hygiene is very important. Other types like chemicals, allergies, fungal are a rather small percentage. Fungal often in people who use "medicated" eye-drops (steroids) for prolonged time and often wrongly in place of some lubricant, moisturizing "un-medicated" ones. But definitely good point: Steroids are a NO if fungal infections involved or can make the body susceptible to fungal infections.

I have seen some surprising recoveries with these drops, otherwise I would not have put this subject up. Thank you. MS>

There is another name for the same drug combination called "OPSARDEX". You can get it for 35 baht at Fascino on Pattaya Klang - or the main one across from Tesco Lotus on Pattaya Nua. I got it today. Always best to look for the drug or drug combination itself or go to a Pharmacy that will look up the name and see what they have that is the same. Fascino did that for me. It is made in Thailand by Thai P.D. Chemicals Co. Ltd. so it is a good one. Good expiration date and manufacture date too. Fascino Pharmacy is usually cheaper when they have it. Going to be hard to beat 35 baht. The pharmacy is on the left, going away from the beach, just a few stores up from where Soi Buakow meets Pattaya Klang.

If you want to know about antibiotics and treating eye infections and how to tell if you need them and how to use them for the best result, this article is perfect. Thorough. No hype. No ads. Just the straight information. I used an ointment at bedtime as it lasts longer and added another antibiotic that is recommended when using Neomycin. The Terramycin ointment by Phizer was only was 48 baht. You could use that one alone if you can tolerate eye ointments in the daytime. Both worked fine. Eyes are great now. The ointment has the added benefit of not having a steroid. That is getting harder to find these days.
