Power Explosion Sets German Chemical Plant Ablaze, Damages Nearby Houses

MOSCOW, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - At least one person has reportedly been injured and thousands more have been warned to prepare for evacuation and instructed to remain inside after a powerful explosion rocked a chemical part near the German city of Bremen on Tuesday night.

One man, who is thought to be a plant employee who had allegedly responded to an alarm, has suffered third degree burns in the blast at the Bergolin plant in the municipality of Ritterhude.

Police say several residents sustained minor injuries.

The powerful explosion, which reportedly occurred at around 9pm, could be heard from kilometers away and sparked a huge fire.
Witnesses say the flames had shot nearly 50 meters in the air as the blast hit the windows of nearby homes.
