george Posted July 15, 2006 Share Posted July 15, 2006 Man severely burnt while allegedly stealing cable from power poles CHON BURI: -- A young man was severely burnt early Saturday morning while he was allegedly stealing a ground cable from a high-voltage power transformer. The short circuitry, which burn the legs and genitals of Phanuphat Chanthasi, 18, in front of a power station in Sattahip district at 2:30 am also caused a blackout in the district. Police said people in the neighbourhoods heard a cry for help immediately after the blackout so some of them came out to see the man lying down with his trousers catching fire. They put out the fire and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Police said Phanuphat climbed up the power pole to cut a ground wire, which was made of copper, from the transformer but the short circuitry occurred, burning him and causing him to fall down. Phanuphat said he came to steal the power cables with two friends who had fled the scene immediately. His mom blew a fuse when she heard about it and volted over the gate leaving her current buns in the micro wave. A crime worse than battery.
