Thai tourist visa on arrival from KL to Phuket for French citizen

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I fly soon to Phuket from KL where I have been for a few days.

For various reasons, while in KL, I didn't apply for the Thai 2 months tourist visa. So for the first time I will fly to Thailand (Phuket then) without any visa (in previous occurrences I would fly back to Thailand either with a B non immigration visas or a tourist visa I had applied for when abroad). I know I can get granted a one month tourist visa on arrival. I also heard that theoretically I can have this visa denied. Questions: how are things happening? Is the visa granting thing happening at the airport in KL, or in Phuket? (Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but I'm always uncultured when it comes to administrative stuff), and what are the chances of me not being granted a tourist visa on arrival?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That is called "visa exemption", not tourist visa. Allows 30 days extensible for 30 more.

You should not have a problem entering and getting a 30 day visa exempt entry since you do not have a history of doing any.

I see thanks. This said, I once overstayed and paid the corresponding 20.000THB penalty fee (last year). Could this compromise my chances?

Thanks. Are you sure it is extensible for another 30 days? I thought the extension could only be 7 days. And do you know how much is the extension?

The overstay will not be a problem.

Since the 29th of August it is possible to extend a visa exempt entry for 30 days.

As ubonjoe said this is a new law, only started 29th August. lLss than a momyh in effect now.

You will be able to get an extension on that entry for 30 days, will codst 1900 baht.

Beyond that first or maybe second extension, no gaurentees are made ....possibly, but it is a new rule.

So do not gount one more than onr or two. per certainmant!

Only one extension per entry is allowed.

For another entry it should not be a problem to get one.
