Tourist visa question...

I got a 2 entry tourist visa. After approximately 3 weeks of being in Thailand, I will fly to another country for a week. Then I will fly back to Thailand again. Will going to another country so soon before 60 days mean that I am short changing myself of my tourist visa time? Or is there a way to resume time on the 1st visa when I get back to Thailand from the other country and then leave Thailand again after the 60 days is up to begin the 2nd visa?

Is a re-entry permit the answer to my question?

Thanks for your help!

Would it be possible to just get a 30 day arrival stamp and just wait to start using the tourist visa when I come back from that other country?

That would entirely depend upon the immigration officer when you enter the country. Some will do it while others would insist that you use your visa.

You can leave the space for the visa number blank on the arrival card blank and see if they will stamp you in visa exempt.

I used my 1st Tourist visa in April, came back in July and was given a 30 day visa exemption. I didn't put my Visa number on the arrival card and I don't think he even looked for one. Just used the 2nd visa, which I did write on the arrival card. Make sure you get the full 60 days stamp, they've been known to make mistakes. Advice I was given on here.

I did exactly what you have posted. Get the Re-Entry Permit! Oh, my local immigration office (last year) tried to talk me out of it as they could not imagin why I would want to spend the money to get one (1900 Baht I think was the fee). Somehow the logic escaped them. But this is Thailand and logic is not in overwhelming supply as we all know.

So get the Re-Entry Permit and do not listen to their very nice suggestion. After they were just trying to save me money (I know strange that given that this is Thailand but... okay then?). That way you can keep the 'leftovers' from your visa and be in compliance with immigration's rules. Though I dare say that when you come back in, you will raise the eyebrow of the immigration officer who will not understand why you would have wanted to spend the extra money on the permit either. But in the end will let you through saying to himor herslf, "Crazy Farang!"

Just remember, on a double or triple-entry tourist visa, the last entry has to be made before the "must enter by" date shown on the visa. I had a double-entry tourist visa a couple of years ago that came with only a 90-day validity window, and ended up not being able to use the second entry.

Do they do triple for americans? I could have sworn the limit was 2

Yes, triple entry tourist visa is available in the US. But ask about the validity it will be issued for.

'Don't think the Embassy (DC) or the Consulates-General will do it, but you can ask.

So is it my understanding that a re entry permit can done quickly at the airport before my flight? Or do I need to do it well in advance?

You can do it at either airport in Bangkok 24 hours a day after you get your boarding pass and enter the departure immigration area. Not sure what operating hours are at other airports.

Where exactly please? At Suv., one gets a quick boarding pass check from an attendant and then goes up an escalator from the check-in area and passes through the security screening, and then goes immediately down to the hall where the immigration desks are. Where do you stop off to get the re-entry permit? Not that I've been looking in the past, but I seem to remember being immediately guided by more attendants into the lines for the immigration desks as soon as one gets off the down-escalator. I guess there must be some desks at the sides or to the rear of this hall that I've never taken any notice of before?

Sorry if this has been covered as I am sure it has somewhere, I just couldn't find it, but can someone get a re-entry permit on a single-entry 60 day tourist visa? They just don't want to have more and more visa-exempt stamps in their passport.

You can get a re-entry permit for the 60 permit to stay you get from a tourist visa. You can also get one after you get the 30 day extension.
