TAT: Thai tourism will quickly rebound following govt's statement on Koh Tao murder

PNSOC570921001008001.jpg

BANGKOK, 22 September 2014 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has expressed confidence that the Thai tourism situation will improve soon after the government issued an announcement on the murder of two British tourists on Koh Tao island.

TAT Governor Thawatchai Aranyik said the Thai government’s announcement, issued to London, confirmed Thailand was doing the utmost in bringing the culprits to justice.

The official added that he therefore believed the Thai tourism, which was affected by the incident, would recover shortly after the statement was released.

Mr Thawatchai also encouraged the private sector on Koh Tao to help ensure security for tourists after the TAT received reports that accommodation reservations on the island started to decrease.

How can the announcement help if the culprits are not caught yet?

I cannot tell you how relieved I am that tourism will be ok. I mean, there's a murderer still at large out there but as long as TAT will be OK then that's all that matters.

Scumbags.

TAT, pls make Thailand a bikini free country to lower crime and boost tourism.

For once i agree - women should just go naked !!

Suriya great idea

This just in the sand has been charged with murder case solved! Now please come back to Thailand its a paradise at least that is what we are told to say or we get arrested and sent to a re-education camp. I am surprised they don't arrest the tool used to bludgeon these poor souls. Use the Thai defense it was the car who ran that person over not me I was just the driver.

Who cares what the TAT or that buffoon say? The bottom line is that if you're a tourist, there's a chance you can be murdered on an island in Thailand.

Khun Aranyik of TAT; would you be so flippant, uncaring, inhuman, degrading and downright pathetic in the name of statistics had your daughter just been raped and murdered? How do you people sleep at night! You're a disgrace to the good, caring Thais out there.

Catch them and we will be grateful .

But don't we will stay away

I'm afraid that's close to wishful thinking. sad.png

Yes, the world is relieved now that TAT have 'confirmed' everything possible is being done. Except, of course, solving the murders.

TAT should be ashamed of themselves. Useless, pointless and very ILL TIMED self promotion. TAT seem to be totally oblivious that these murders have made headlines around the world and the proceedings are being very closely followed. With the daily flip flopping statements from the police, I doubt that TAT's confirmation will appease anybody.

In addition to making Thailand bikini free, 1920s style swimsuits perhaps, make Thailand alcohol free too. That should assure Thailands place in world tourism.

Why would catching do anything. It's the confidence in prevention that would do something. Tell me I don't have to wear a hoodie and jeans to the beach - that might do something!

It's Thai logic. And that's beyond us.

Thais are legends in their own minds. They "imagine" that tourism will bounce back. They make a statement and project their own hopes, dreams and wishes on to the mentality and state of mind of the foreign tourist. Who will the Thais throw under the bus for this heinous bludgeoning double murder? Will the beach bars other unregulated businesses be struck down and razed by the army as they claim they did on another Thai resort beach? Will there be corrective action taken on the beach life in Koh Tao and other Thai beach locations? Europeans and North Americans should head to other venues. Leave Thailand to the Chinese and the Russians.

That statement really sums up the mentallity of Thai authorities. First priority is that the tourist-dollars keeps coming!

That two young Brits lost their lives, is merely considered a "inconvenience" !sad.png

Do all the Thai apologist (who, by the way, have been very thin in numbers over the last year or so) STILL reckon tourism is only 6% of the GDP here!? Huh? Really? Only 6% with the daily cries for help?

Must hurt to be so wrong. Hopefully people will not too quickly forget this last year or so when they have a couple of good days in a row and put their rose-coloured shades on again.

I think I want to try some of the drugs that TAT management seems to be on.

"Just swallow this little pill and everything will be wonderful. All your problems will go away."

I didn't read any of the Thai news over the weekend, so have I missed something about an important advancement in the Koh Tao murder case that has actually redeemed the Thai police from looking only like incompetent fools?

Oh! thats OK then, don't let murders, scams, muggings get in the

way of the tourist Bht.,

regards Worgeordie

I'm thinking that a press release is not going to sway many Western Tourists. Dead is dead and everyone could easily see the law enforcement general attitude towards tourist safety.

Westerners tend to watch what people do and then look to see if it matches the words, hype.

I have never seen any other people to have such optimism than Thais all the time. I guess it is true what the say, ignorant is blessed
