Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can help with my query.

My wife and I bought a new townhouse in a new development. We are moving in tomorrow and the office told us the Electricity Pole is not up for the Internet.

Is it possible to get Internet through satellite dish?

If so can anyone recommend any companies that do this and any good packages?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I am new here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Stevo

Try connecting your laptop through your phone it's quite fast. If that works buy an air card I think it's cheaper.

If you can't get fixed-line Internet then go with some version of Wireless Internet. Satellite Internet is expensive, slow, and fraught with packet delay issues.

As ATF mentioned, try all of the 3G/LTE mobile data players, AIS, DTAC, True H, TOT-3G, and see which one works best for you. Then you can purchase either an AirCard for a single computer or a 3G Pocket WiFi Router an share the account with up to 5 WiFi connected client devices.

As CharlieH mentions, Wireless Internet delivered by point-to-point radios are offered in many rural areas by TOT (WiNet) and AIS (AirNet).

We are moving in tomorrow and the office told us the Electricity Pole is not up for the Internet.

Could you expand on this comment a bit? Does your new place have electricity. Or is the cement pole needed before other services like cable, phone and Internet can be provided?

We've had to support a number of customers moving into new housing developments over the last year or so, all in metro-Bangkok.

We went with AIS AirNET initially because there were no other options. Over subsequent months 3BB, True and CAT started pulling cable/fiber and we transitioned customers to 3BB (DSL and/or FTTx), CAT (FTTx) and True (DSL and/or DOCSIS).

Talk with neighbors to see what they are doing; they'll know exactly what's available. Check real-estate social media forums, many of which have sub-forums for each development and a lot of great information (requires Thai).

AIS AirNET requires a 12 month commitment so if it looks like you can get by with 3G for the time period while you are waiting for cable/fiber then 3G might be less expensive. Just make sure you have coverage, the proper equipment (tethered phone, USB aircard, MiFi router) and support for the required frequency (2100 MHz 3G for AIS, 850/2100 MHz for TrueMove H, 850/2100 MHz for DTAC).

In the developments we've worked in, it has taken many, many months (up to 12 months) to get cabled solutions. And, 'real' electricity might take a few months as well. You'll have a trickle, before the meters are installed, barely enough to light a few bulbs early on so recommend a UPS.
