Non Viral Threats Found

Featured Replies

I've just run my Norton Anti-virus and it detected 5 items. I tried to delete them

and was sucessful in deleting 3 of them.

The remaining two failed to delete;

Non Viral Threats Detected

msconfig.exe Adware.Purityscan Adware found At Risk

win9.tmp.exe Dialer.Kotu Dialer Found At Risk

So I can't delete these threats, What should I do?

Is it ok to leave them as they are?

Thanks

Up to you if you think it's OK to leave them or not, but you should know Adware.Purityscan is a program which delivers advertising pop-ups, and Dialer.Kotu is a program which tries to dial out to a high-cost phone number.

If you want to be sure you can remove them manually, however ad-aware and/or spybot S&D will probably remove them (and maybe a lot of other stuff) automagically.

Symantec has manual removal instructions for both of these problems:

http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.purityscan.html

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/...-99&tabid=3

Ad-aware is available from here

Spybot S&D is available from here

Both these programs are free
