Obama: America will continue to lead in uncertain world

America is not leading the world anymore and should retire to the sidelines like the Brits.

Their foreign policies are largely irrelevant, provocative and divisive rather than bridging differences or of any use

The Brits had the quiet dignity to understand their time is up and they wait patiently by the side for their turn again

Yanks should learn how to queue. America is leading the "world" only within continental USA. Clap Clap

The Chinese still continue to think history is the history of the rise and fall of empires.

The Soviet Union was the last empire but its collapse did not mark the end of history.

China to the present moment has lived 5000 years of dictatorship. That history will come to its inevitable end.

Let's hope it's as peaceful and as whimpering a thud as was the end of the Soviet Union.

The USA has a very short history in the books and most of it is marred by misguided paranoia about dangers, attacks and responding in kind like a brute hence it's major failures in most of it's recent foreign policies and it didn't start with only Obama.

The most common response in any USA is military and sanctions.

If you have peaceful governments that is non provocative in nature ...you don't see them responding irrationally or shooting off the hip first before giving talks and negotiations a go.

However the politics in USA are at times unfortunately marred and heavily influenced by industries and power plays of making the business richer.

The rigidity of 5000 years of Chinese totalitarian government, society, culture renders it incapable of change, adaptation, progress, reform. Hence the smug and foolhardy pontificating. Try reading some pontifications yourself to see how you might react.

The CCP's internal security People's Armed Police get more funding than the entire armed forces do. The eternally corrupt Chinese elites fear their own people. The United States defends its people. No one party state has ever contributed anything positive to human life or history.

Censorship makes the Chinese in to mindless robots of interminable recitations. Those who have experienced CCP censorship know its character, nature, direct consequences on the population. In China the rule of law is over ruled by the rule of men, every time, always, forever.

The Old World remains an aggressive and inflexible place and the mass of its people remain backward, crude, primitive. In the nuclear age, the consequent risks are immeasurable. The weapons of genetic biological warfare exist, primarily in the CCP;'s China.

Beijing's bellicose belligerence against its neighbors outward in all directions and in the areas in its West that it occupies are a cause of great and profound concern throughout the Indo-Pacific strategic region and beyond.

Horse manure. The Brit's time was up. It had nothing to do with dignity. The USA still has the strongest economy and the most powerful military in the world. Our problem is a weak leader with foolish polices "leading" for two terms - at a very bad time in history - but it might still be possible to recover from him.

America will continue to lead in uncertain world in uncertain direction by a certain Leader!

Let's amend that statement.

America, lead by a fascist ruler, will continue to lead an uncertain world in an uncertain direction. This leader who has neither moral authority, nor a long term plan, will continue to spend trillions of dollars that the nation does not have, to attempt to achieve a very unclear objective, possibly dragging his nation into a very long, and protracted war.

What has the strongest military anything to do with leading the world ? That equation to start off with is perhaps the issue many have with the USA and it's leadership style

Wake up. The country with the strongest economy and the strongest military always leads the world and that is just what your communist buddies in China aspire to. Despite its imperfections, the USA is the most benign superpower ever and it is not likely that China would even try to stick to that path.

You clearly don't know the definition of fascist. Obama had to get a majority vote in both Houses of the US Congress to engage in Syria.

There are five ME countries also delivering air strike against ISIS in Syria right now. CNN

I don't know if it's a good plan or not. I'm not in on all of the intelligence. I haven't been at all happy with US ME policy since 9/11. But a majority of 535 members of the US Congress voted for it and "we" elected them so we'll have to wait and see.

Really? Always? Any examples to clarify what it means? How about "country with the strongest military creates most enemies", which is the opposite of leadership?

that is just what your communist buddies in China aspire to.

They have quietly inserted themselves everywhere in Asia and Africa and no one sees them as comparable to Western imperial powers. Their influence and desire to control things is well below of what is expected and people always complain that they are not "leading" enough, it's just not their style.

That is true, they might pick up a few bad habits from the West, but generally they are not set on world domination in a traditional sense.

Edit: Well, even the idea of "top dog" is not as axiomatic as we assume. Asian power structures are different, they arrange it so that everyone feels a "top dog" within his given domain.

I beg to differ Ulysses G., the problem with America is it's totally corruptible political sysytem.

The limited number of particulars are known to Americans and the challenges will be remedied over a reasonably effective period of time.

Conversely, oligarchy in Russia is there to stay and only to expand until the bloated fat cats explode along with their systems and country.

Corruption is eternal in eternal China and CCP corruption is massive, the greatest and most extensively endemic systems of organized corruption the world has ever known or experienced. For instance, the wife of former PM Wen Jai Bao has the long time absolute lock on the sale, trade, distribution of jewelry and gems throughout the PRC.

Xi Jinping has yuan falling out of his pockets, however, Xi just isn't as wealthy as Bill Gates. Not yet. Xi has been in office only two years.

“The limited number of particulars are known to Americans and the challenges will be remedied over a reasonably effective period of time. “

Obama has had six years without any tangible improvement other than BLS fudging the figures.

How much more time is needed and what is “reasonably effective period of time “ ?rolleyes.gif

the single most important number in today’s report is 102 million, which is the rounded sum of adults either not in the labor force or unemployed, and it amounts to 41% of the adult population. Stated differently, that’s the number of adults who do not contribute to current production and must be supported either by family breadwinners or the state—-and nowadays especially the latter.facepalm.gif

The U.S. government is borrowing about 8 trillion dollars a year, and you are about to see the hard numbers that prove this. When discussing the national debt, most people tend to only focus on the amount that it increases each 12 months. And as I wrote about recently, the U.S. national debt has increased by more than a trillion dollars in fiscal year 2014.So what happens when the rest of the world decides that it does not want to loan us 8 trillion dollars a year at ultra-low interest rates?

U.S. capital markets are circulating $58 Trillion dollars throughout the global economy to include in the United States.

The global total of all capital markets is $212 Trillion. Virtually all of the amount exists in stocks and bonds.

The United States accounts for some 25% of the global capital market. No other country comes close, although the EU makes a strong place showing.

The U.S. also possesses almost 30% of the gold in the world, although the moonbeam Goldfingers continually hop up and down flapping the U.S. has no gold. Gold anyway matters for nothing -- absolutely nothing. Gold as with any or all fiat currencies is based on confidence and the markets are absolutely confident there isn't enough gold in the universe to cover $212 Trillion dollars.

If God had that much gold he'd be a happy man.

The massive multiple Trillions of USD$ fund housing and infrastructure projects in emerging markets especially, fund banks on every continent that in turn provide local lending for a multiplicity of economic and social development projects, provide for projects in health, education. community development and so much more that is central to upgrading people's quality of life and to growing both U.S. and global GDP.

In the United States its capital markets make it possible for right wingnuts to bich incessantly and compulsively about government support of people who have been displaced from the labor market because the economy is moving in to a new era in which technology is increasingly displacing the labor market.

And who anyway is going to call in this global debt, the entirely of all U.S. and global capital?

You and your moonbeam funny guys???

Note: How much anyway is a Trillion of anything? To give some idea, one trillion seconds of time is 32 years. So God would indeed be a happy man.
