BANGKOK, 27 October 2014 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police is tightening security measures, and has ordered the police in every region to ensure the safety of Thai and foreign tourists.

Pol.Lt.Gen. Prawut Thavornsiri, the spokesman for the Royal Thai Police has announced that the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police has commanded the police in every area to set up security measures for the tourism high-season.

The Immigration Bureau will facilitate the immigration process to make it faster, and will report the number of arriving visitors, and visitors' internal travel routes, as well as the visitor’s place of accommodation.

The police will use this information to direct policemen in the area to take care of the traveler's safety. Meanwhile, the Tourist Police are appointed to work with tourism establishments to take proper care of their tourist customers.

The Royal Thai Police will put an end to all kinds of opportunistic crime to prevent any danger to the tourists. In addition, the police will recruit security volunteer workers to help the police take care of any emergency situation.

Yes, show the world you must take such measures because it's an unsafe country

1. Tourists are already asked to provide a place of accommodation on their Arrival Card.

2. Does reporting of tourist numbers really matter? (In other words, will protection numbers increase if tourism increases?)

3. How will RTP track internal travel routes of visitors?

Why don't you really put your money where your mouth is and convict the real killers of Koh Tao? Too busy hiding/spending your hush money?

talk talk and more talk........nothing else

"The Immigration Bureau will facilitate the immigration process to make it faster, and will report the number of arriving visitors, and visitors' internal travel routes, as well as the visitor’s place of accommodation.

So although you will have to take the time to tell them your itinerary and where you will be staying, the process will miraculously be faster at immigration when you enter the country. But that's okay because now that they know where the tourists are staying, they will "use the information to direct policemen in the areas to take care of the travelers". Does that mean that each tourist will have his or her own policeman sitting in the lobby doing guard duty and ready to accompany the tourist everywhere he goes? It should be interesting for those who come for the services of bar girls. I can just see the policeman sitting in a chair in corner of the hotel room while the customer has his shag, watching for the girl to slip some knockout drug into the unsuspecting tourist's drink.

post-218648-0-40679800-1414378932_thumb.Dear tourists please come back, we need your money!!

Meaningless.

"has ordered the police in every region to ensure the safety of Thai and foreign tourists."

In that order, of course.

"The Royal Thai Police will put an end to all kinds of opportunistic crime to prevent any danger to the tourists."

rolleyes.gif "end to all kinds of opportunistic crime " - rhetorical opportunities is that? whistling.gif

safest thing an unwitting tourist in this country can do is stay as far away as possible from the RTP

Meanwhile, even the well known jet ski scam continues, in full view, with the usual approval and involvement and cut taken by the "authorities". I saw one yesterday. So did several hundred others. Truly in full view, known crimes committed in full view by known gangs, a stones throw from the police station in a major tourist resort. And guess what, RTP and Mr general, you already know where the tourists go, they go to the usual tourist resorts, the places where violent, scamming criminal scum roam the streets with impunity, knowing that not only is the law useless, but that it will be on their side no matter what they do. Who does the general think he is fooling?

Whilst they are protecting the Thai & foreign tourists who will be protecting the locals?

1. So they have to be ordered to do this?

2. Have they actually stopped even one type of tourist scam?

the police will recruit security volunteer workers to help the police take care of the police ???

Will the volunteers include Rohingya roti sellers who can translate confessions in any language the BIB require ?

Have the Village Head's been notified, they seem to be unhappy when the police try and enforce law and order.

Don't they Mr Woraphan Toovichien?

Yes, show the world you must take such measures because it's an unsafe country

are you serious?

Thailand can be both dangerous and safe, it is like the tourist who decides it.

I myself have never had any problems here, I'm not exactly someone who seeks out problems or looking like a big jackpot for criminals.

thailand would be a wonderful place without the negative foreign that should only criticize the country. go home if it is so bad here.

nanny state is waiting for you, nanny state wants you working to pay lots of lots of tax. slaves

You certainly put the "boy" in your post, 'bapoboy.'

How exactly does a tourist decide if Thailand is going to be dangerous or safe? Did David Miller and Hannah Witheridge decide their fate? There is nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism of the RTP. Don't you think they've earned it?

These people think we are as dumb as they are.

"In addition, the police will recruit security volunteer workers to help the police..."

Great.

Unpaid thugs... wai2.gif wai.gif

And during the low season tourists are on there own. Very reassuring

But who will protect the tourists from the Police?

Yes, show the world you must take such measures because it's an unsafe country

If only that were the whole story. There is value in being able to track down and hand over citizens to their home countries. As for new regulations, there is value in enforcing new regulations and value in not enforcing them.

"In addition, the police will recruit security volunteer workers to help the police take care of any emergency situation."

Erm, isn't that the job of the BIB?

The fact is most of the resorts have a huge den of illegal businesses slap bang in the middle of them.

Taxis, gogo bars, TUK tuks, jetskis, all acting illegally or breaking some law or another.

So what exactly is the point in providing protection when the entire premise of the resort is illegalit

I know a bit about security and I'm wondering if these "orders" are supported by plans and processes which are supported by any kind of training? Communication between different services and knowing who takes/accepts responsibilities? Language issues taken care of? Methinks things will not change and local village chiefs and mafia will tell the police what they can and cannot investigate etc

So says "Mr 3 Monkeys"

Just flew from Khon Kaen to Bangkok. No military/police at KK airport and didn't see a cop or military as I got my bags/taxi at Swampy.

What dose it even mean " tighten security" ? was security loose or untightened so far?

and if so why? or is it only a lip service before every tourist season, but millions of tourists

are coming to Thailand all year around, why now than?

Whilst it is still most obvious in he public domain that scams and violence against tourist are are unrelenting how can this senior officer keep a straight face or expect anyone to give him credibility following an article like this. The RTP have no record of preventing crime in any shape or form and nothing this officer says is going to change the status quot.

Just more hot air .
