eljuwa
Hello Forum Members I live in the Nimmanhemin area. Presently I am with Grace Dental. I wish to find a new dentist preferably in the Nimman area. I like to have a Western trained dentist, preferably, or an English speaking dentist. Any of you folks willing to recommend a dentist (except Grace Dental). Thanks a lot. James

JulieM
A friend recommended Nimmen Dental Clinic, right on the corner of Nimmen and Soi 1. You can't miss it. I personally have never been there.
lexilis
Grace Dental has been excellent in my experience but it has been a couple of years since I have been there. I am curious as to why the OP is wanting an alternative.
JulieM
I can't speak for the OP, but I've had fillings replaced by the dentist on Nimman Soi 17 (?) and I think that is Grace. The fillings didn't last two years. Whatever that place is called I won't be going back.
eljuwa
I can't speak for the OP, but I've had fillings replaced by the dentist on Nimman Soi 17 (?) and I think that is Grace. The fillings didn't last two years. Whatever that place is called I won't be going back. First, JulieM, thanks very much for your input. In fact I go past the Nimman Dental building quite often. This place was recommended to you by your friend and it will be a place that I will visit as I search for a new Dentist and it also happens to be in the Nimman area where I live. Another place that I am considering is Payon Dental Clinic recommended via past input of other Forum Members. Your experience at Nimman Soi 17 (it is Grace and is understandable) is sad but true. Now, please let me explain the reason WHY I want to change and this is in answer to the "lexilis" comment also. I am a customer of Grace Dental since January 2012. I have no problems with Grace Dental until about one year ago. My dental needs were confined to "cleaning only". First they, recommended additional X'rays (often and run up the bill) and stated there are other problems with a receding gum. Which may need " surgery". My gums look pretty healthy to me and I would like to have a 2nd professional opinion. The cleaning charge (in January 2012) was about 900 baht for light plaque and 1,000 baht for moderate plaque. Then they increased their rates to 1,000 baht for light plaque and 1,100 baht for moderate plaque. Normally I have moderate plaque and I did not complain about charges. Then about 9 months ago they introduced an "additional service charge for the clinic of 100 baht." This time I complained to my dentist and she spoke to the Front Desk. Bottom line, she reduced my all inclusive fee to 1,100 baht. The Front Desk reluctantly agreed. The latter however when the payment time comes tried to sneak in the 100 baht extra. I refused in July 2014 and the Front Desk made my fee only 1,100 baht. Lastly I went on 2 November and the Front Desk charged me 1,200 baht. They sneaked in the 100 baht service charge. I complained vehemently. The November 2014 cleaning was marked as "Moderate Plaque" and same procedure as the previous cleaning in July 2014. I believe that Grace Dental is following the Western Model of setting goals for their dentists to increase, collect billing. The Farangs who can afford will pay. I can not afford this cost. Thanks again, JulieM. Regards James

johnnynmonic
So Grace has a good hygienist? I've paid 800 for pretty poor cleaning. I'd fork over a few more hundred if they were as meticulous with the tartar as western hygienists.

Hello James, trust me on this one...... I made the mistake of taking the recommendation of a couple of forum members and went to this clinic to replace a filling. It was up there with the worst dental experiences of my life! The owner is a nice guy with about 15 years experience but I'll leave it at that. Move on and keep looking. Not sure I understand the problem with your current dentist. Never been there myself but all good dentists in C.M. charge at least 1,000 THB for a good cleaning. You would pay twice that in Bangkok. bluweyze
It isn't near Nimmenheiman but I recommend Elite smile at Pantip Plaza. The orthodontist there only works Wednesday afternoons and Sundays but is excellent. I have gum problems and spend around 45 minutes every 3 months which costs me 800 Baht. Her English and personality are both excellent

I've been using Chiang Mai dental hospital for years with no complaints. It's on the superhighway near the intersection of Chotana rd (highway 107) , just past the computer plaza there. Mapguy
Perhaps this thread is another example of the COUNTLESS unassimilated foreigner threads and lack of meaningful searches in the ThailVisa Chiangmai foreigner ghetto! Chiang Mai has a huge surfeit of dentists, only a very, very few of which are ever mentioned on ThaiVisa Chiang Mai because people don't know much about the place in which they live and speaking English seems to be the key criterion to many so much of the time. Well, most dentists, if not all, do speak enough English. You don't get the degree and professional certification otherwise. Otherwise, of course, Grace and other shops mentioned constantly on this site are just doing effective marketing, not necessarily practicing better dentistry. But they are certainly are effective in making foreigners "comfortable," which doesn't have much to do with dental proficiency. Ram, Elite, Grace, whatever. Ther are many, many more places some at "half the price," only as an indication of difference! Do you really want to save money and find a decent dentist? Not so hard, but you do need to speak some Thai. Otherwise, teeth are teeth and "ouch" is "ouch." If you have a monstrous dental problem, then learn enough to know how to reach a specialist! And professionals will tell you! (By the way, why might you have a monstrous problem?) Edited November 10, 2014 by Mapguy
siriporny
Recommend DENTAL WORLD clinic. Professional doctors (in various expertise) and staffs without any English difficulties. Easy to go from Nimman to them by "Red Tuk Tuk" within 10mins only, locating in city area.
Frank James
I have had very good dental care at the office of Dr. Pongsakorn. He speaks good English and would never try to steer you into anything but what you need done. Great guy, super reasonable fees, all posted in his waiting room.
