Cr01wner
Anyone have reputable agents who could lease for six months? Looking to pay about 40,000 - 45,000 Bath a month. Would that cover a place that has an oven and washing machine? I've heard washing machines are rare in Thai apartments? Hope you can help - sorry very new to this and first time living abroad. Quite scared!
TheSpade
40-50k per month in Bangkok, central or not, is loads. You'll get a great place for that price. Washing machines and full ovens are not exactly the norm but often the more expensive places will have them, I wouldn't recommend booking anything online or through an agent. Wait till you land and go looking. When you find an area you like the look of go in to buildings and enquire about prices and rooms. is there any particular area you think you'd like to live in?

wordchild
You don't say what kind of space you need ie size and number of bedrooms. As a rule of thumb, for central/ prime Bangkok, (phrom pong , asoke, ploenchit, sathorn/silom etc) close to the bts , you should be able to rent a condo sized in sqm a little more than double your monthly budget in baht. eg for 50k bt pm you should be able to rent a 100/120 sqm 2 bedroom in a reasonable condition and central location not too far from bts. A new build/recently refurbished condo with all the equipment will be more than this. If you focus a little further out and also less convenient for the bts you can get better deals. asanee
self-serve wash machines are not rare at all-about any, even the cheapest aprmts have them-but for communal use-mostly at 20/30 bt/turn-cold (or rather unheated) water as is the norm in Asia. Tipically near upmarket condo bldgs will be numerous do the wash+iron for you places-prices in line with rent. You farang cannot think out of your own box. TheSpade
I love the fact that in Bangkok I don't ever have to do laundry, cooking, cleaning etc. Can just pay someone a few baht to do it for me. Suits me fine.
BKKBobby
With 40-45k you can rent a nice condo at a very central location. Oven is rare but you might have a washing machine that can be shared with others on your floor/building. You can rent a nice two room condo/serviced apartment for 25-30k in Asoke, the sois behind Exchange Tower.
KED
I agree that 40-45K THB is more than enough for a nice 1-2 bedroom rental. The biggest consideration is that it should be near the skytrain or MRT Line. Also, if you will be working in a specific location while here - not a bad idea to live close to your office since the rush hour masses can be a big hurdle. Also, take a look at the area during the day and also at night - certain areas have a total personality change from day to night.
