Green
What do folks here recommend for getting from bkk (onnut) to Koh Kood?
Morch
If you have a car, it might be a better option to drive. There's OK parking (roofed and guard) at the speedboat pier. We took a night bus from Ekkamai once and that proved to be a mistake - uncomfortable ride and had a long wait at Trat. At the time we were thinking that if we do that again, we'll stay over one night in town. Most hotels and guesthouses will hook you up with a speedboat + pick-up service (was better price than arranging it ourselves).
Green
I don't have a car. I'm guessing minivan would be best, just wondering if there is one that is good. When I go to Koh Chang I get a mini van service from Suwannaphum, it goes on the ferry and drops you to your resort. 900 return. I was thinking of going friday evening if possible and stay somewhere close to the pier. Or else it would be Saturday morning. Thanks

Bullie
The price of the minivan can not really be beaten, but to me they are all deathtraps.... I therefore prefer to take the bus to Trat at about the same price. As a suggestion: there is also a slower boat going to Koh Kood from Trat (3 times a week) that delivers supplies and passengers to the Island. I found it a wonderful relaxing boattrip (and much safer!!) than the speedboat. If you are not in a hurry, I would recommend this in addition to an overnight stay in Trat, the evening market is quite nice, plus it would make for a trip a little bit off the beaten track.
phetphet
Flight is short, but imho the best way is by car /limousine/taxi or private mini bus. Its a 3.5 -4 hours journey, so if you make an early start, you can get the midday (13:00hrs?) speedboat from Laem Sok. I have normally asked the resort where I stayed to organise for me. I think most resorts can arrange this service. Another option is to Google for limousine services or private mini bus. You might find a private one where you can get a good deal. As others have said, a night in a hotel near the night food market is not a bad option. Dinner, early night and pick up to the pier the following morning for the 09:30 boat. That would allow you to leave BKK up to say 15:30 -16:00, and still have time for dinner. I have stayed at Rimklong Boutique Hotel. Large, clean, basic rooms with tv. under 5 mins to night market. Several small guest houses not to far away. Edited November 13, 2014 by phetphet
Gatorade
Book into the Soneva Kiri hotel, Bit pricey but they have their own private aircraft and airstrip on the adjoining island to Ko Kood. Takes about 1.30 from Bangkok Dom Muang. They operate about 4 times a day and carry around 8 passengers.
Jaggg88
Fly to Trat, then take the speedboat. Bangkok Airways fly to Trat but make sure you book on their Thai website as its much cheaper than the English one - about 2500 bht if I remember correctly
Green
Thanks very much for those replies. Flying will be my next trip, thanks for the tips, I had forgotten that was an option. I plan though to get a mini van from Ekkamai bus station (im at onnut), I have read they leave starting about 4:30/5am. Thats fine, about 5 hours, I will stop by there Friday (today) to check departure times. Any advice on resorts (1-2000B preferably) on Koh kood? 3 nights. Looking at Siam beach and Sunshine resorts, look like they have beautiful beaches. Thanks again!

natway09
A bit off subject but the above replies have got you there.I knew the adjoining island was building a small airstrip so must be open now. Just be a bit careful, the island is a beautiful paradise but be warned a lot of snakes (the real ones I mean)

For a group the 6 bedroom villa looks pretty nice. http://www.soneva.com/soneva-kiri/experiences Always incredible what you get for your money at the upper end in Los. Can book into the Sukothai or Antara in Bangkok for less than I had to pay for a crummy Ibis in London last week.
