Friend entering on exempt after visa rejection

Hi all,

My French friend has been staying in Thailand the majority of the year over the past few years. He's had multi-entry tourist visas, in-out exempts, but never a non-b. He's been working in Australia since before the visa clamp down (he left last April) and is planning to return here next month. He just emailed me and said he couldn't get a visa, so won't be able to stay the two/three months he was hoping to.

But to me, it seems like that means his request for a tourist visa was denied (probably based on his history) and in that case, I don't feel confident they would LET him fly into the kingdom on a visa exempt- am I correct?

I'm still waiting to hear back if he was for sure rejected for the tourist visa (the email wasn't clear), but in case he just isn't able to apply for one for some reason, then still, given his passport history, it seems very sketchy to try to enter without a visa for him, right?

Just wanted to get others' opinion on this. Thanks for your time.

I see no reason why he could not enter on a visa exempt entry. They only look for recent exempt entries to determine if a person is a in/out visa runner.

why would he be refused a tourist visa in the first place?

If he was applying in Australia for a tourist visa it could be because he did not have proof of residence there.

He shoulda been able to copy of his Australian visa though, as I know his is legitimate.

I'm trying to get more details from him. His English isn't perfect and sometimes the messages are from google translate so they're not always clear

I was wondering if he woulda been rejected because they can see how much time he's spent here already- and aren't they allegedly capping people now on a max number of visas they'll issue in a year?

There is no limit on the number of tourist visas you can get or using the entries from them. There is a lot of incorrect information going around about visas and exempt entries.

Maybe it was a Multi Type O he applied for which is now only available to those over 65, his options if I am correct would be -

Tourist Visa x2 or maybe 3x

Retirement Visa in home country O-A (which needs financial evidence and medical and Police report) and over 50

I don't think he was applying for the visa in the UK. That is the only place where there is a 65 or over rule.

Also there is nothing in the OP to indicate he is 50 or over.

Was he working in Oz legitimately?

Has be been "asked to leave".

One of the questions on any visa application that I have ever seen is" have you ever been refused a visa in another country, refused entry, or have ever been deported" or similar words to that effect.

Is it possible that he has run foul of the Oz immigration and the Thai refusal is a consequence?

You have been stating the above on several occasions, but you might have forgotten about the dreaded "red stamp" warnings indicating that next time one will possibly be refused another TV. It has been reported here on TV that applicants whose pps were stamped were refused another one.

Has there been a change in this policy, or did it slip your mind?

That is getting tourist visas from the same embassy not overall from different locations which was what I was writing about.

You also need to look at the post I was replying to just before mine.

Thanks UJ, but that's not what the stamp implies. It does not say or otherwise suggest that one can get another TV at other locations. How do you know that this rule does not apply when you apply elsewhere Joe?
