Not just mountain people! I'm down south and every market sells betel and the leaves. Many Burmese use it, and for the local yokels it's a daily routine.

To the OP....I've seen tobacco vendors in the fresh market selling cured baccy that does not look processed in any way....straight from the farm. Might be a bit rough for you though. What makes for good chaw?
