What is wrong with Thailand. I have been coming here since 1972. I have been living here 5 years now, sometimes working teaching, other times on a visa that does not really exist does it "retirement visa" no such thing as.

Thailand was a good country years ago. Now it is not.

I have to consider leaving, Thai people generally are good, not so for the country and the corrupt or convicted.

When you in a country long enough you may not realize that the rest of the world is also changing....%

Nothing more than a witch hunt for any high profile supporters of the previously democratically elected government. The Junta will do anything to snuff out democracy and freedom.

Wrong. Take a look at e.g. the Asian Sentinel to see what it's about.

Nopporn was ranked Thailand's 31st richest man in 2013 by Forbes magazine, with an estimated fortune of $800 million, and is thought to be on the run.

He is alleged to have hired men to abduct a businessman in Bangkok in order to have a debt he owed relieved, the police spokesman added.

He sounds like a real rocket scientist. He may have owed a million or two, so he decided to risk his empire, rather than simply pay his debt, like honorable men do. Instead, this half man, this low life, this small fry, this piss ant, this human freak of nature decided to try to have someone kidnapped, instead of honoring his obligations. Wow. What can one say? Hope he spends many decades behind bars. If what appears to be happening here is really happening, this is a great thing for the nation. However, I for one, am waiting for sentences to be given, and waiting to see if any of these piglets actually serve any significant time behind bars, before deciding if this is real, or just a show. I am hoping it is real. Many millions in this nation are also hoping this is real, I am sure.

I assume you are a supporter of democracy, freedom and blatant corruption? sad.png

this has to be a contender for the "most facile post" award?

I merely posed a question.

Perhaps you would have been better satisfied with a pedantic answer instead? Rhetorical question - sayonara.

I don't give a stuff if these people are red, yellow or blue : they are massively corrupt and karma is catching up with them. They are guilty, just like Thaksin is. Whether the choice to prosecute is political is a side-issue : they are still criminals.

The fact that they happen to be red-shirts is just confirmation of who are the biggest scoundrels in Thailand.

this has nothing to do with red shirts. nothing.

off subject: but why doesn't the Electric Authority allow you to pay by card ? its a CASH ONLY organization ! surely it is rife for money laundering, corruption and internal theft.

but I pay my PEA-accounts by direct-debit from my Bangkok Bank account, so perhaps NOT cash-only, after all ? wai2.gif

Sorry, I wasnt clear. i was talking about Debit and credit card. When you go to the office, they only accept cash.

yes, they do Bank Transfers from Thai Bank Accounts... so I am wrong. it is not an entirely cash organization.

But they will not accept any Payment Cards, Debit Cards or Credit Cards.

i assume they dont want to have to pay the % commission in the transaction fee. (then again, i have no idea if HUGE organizations have a commission to pay from card transactions) ... otherwise the supermarkets would not let me use a card for purchasing a chocolate bar.

I had wondered if only the CIP chief and a few police were involved, but it

seems that more people may be involved with this scandal, and likely some others

as well. I still love to visit Thailand on my holidays and hope to spend more time there

in the future, as the majority of the people, rich or poor are decent people. The few people who

are found out to be corrupt , deserve to be found out and charged. Speculating who is

associated to who is foolish, I am just glad that the corrupt are being found out and are paying the

price for their ways.

Stargeezer

I think your perception of these current events and Thai society is both ill-informed and naive.

Amazing how some here call elections where votes are openly bought "democratically elected", lol.

Amazing how some here think vote buying is not democracy in action.

"If you vote for me I will give you ...." -- it's the pitch of every politician in every election in every country that's ever happened. That's what democracy is. And what is wrong with that?

as vote buying has been carried out by most parties on all sides I fail t =see that it can have entity see how it ca have anything but minor isolated effects on results - anyone who thinks that some elections huge majorities are the result of vote buying need to think again.
