Hi All,

I currently have an extension of stay and WP with my employer but i am wondering if anything went tits up and i had to leave the job my WP would be cancelled and i would only have 24 hours to leave the country (7 days if i got an extension at immigration), i have a 6 year old boy here, not married and not living with my boys mother. As i understand it at the moment i only need my boys Thai birth certificate as documentation that i have a dependent, or do i need anything else?

thanks in advance

i for years have used the birth certificate as well as an affidavit sworn at my embassy saying that i am the child's father and that she live with me.

i also provide copies of her thai passport and canadian passport, and bring along utilities bills proving my address and recent pics of me and the kid, but have never been asked to show. also bring recent chool report cards, medical bills or anything i can show to prove i am the primarty carer if required, but they never have been.

mileage may very between consulates, Vientiane requires no copy of mothers ID or financial provenance. Penang wants to see mothers ID and your book - bank statements are not accepted.

i have never atempted HK or singapore, but experiences getting my non b in singapore years back with all the required documents were so painful i struck it off the list.

You cna get a 60 day extension based on the birth certificate and the child will need to accompany you to immirgaiton, together with ID card (if have) and household registraiton book, or evidence of actual place of living (rental contract or utility bill).

For an extension of stay for 1 year, you need to be the legal father. Since the child is 6 years old you could try and visit the amphur together with the child and the mother. If they agree you are the father you can become the legal father in this way. Some amphurs might want the child to be at least 7 years old, in that case you could petition the court to become the legal father.
