Hello all,

So, I was on a NON B, I then left my job, was told to exit the country, come back in and apply for a NON O.....I did all that and now I have a marriage visa based on having 400,000 Baht in the bank, all fine. I am taking a year off work, but I want to know what happens if next year I go back to work and get a work permit? Can I just extend my visa based on the lump sum of money + a work permit? or do I need to then show 40,000 per month? I am confused about this.

Cheers.

You can use money in the bank without a problem. You don't even need to show your work permit to immigration unless you are using your income from working to get the extension.

That sounds nice and easy. Its one of the benefits of being married and having an 'O' visa I guess....that old NON B gets cancelled when you leave your job. I think that's the way a lot of employers like to have a hold over you. I was told to change from an O to a B for my last job, I did it...but never again.

Cheers mate

whistling.gif There is no need to change your Non o visa to a Non B if you get a job, since you already have a non O extension based on marriage to a Thai.

Now, to be sure, the immigration MAY want you to switch to a Non B. but it is not really necessary, just immigration unable to think outside the box.

Sometimes they have the mindset that says Non B is for business and working, and therefore you must have a Non B to work. But that is not true.

Be warned however, with a visa based on marriage there is one little hitch.

That is, if you are ever divorced, or your wife dies, you will also have to get another visa or extension (for example, taking care of your children, if that applies).

But let's hope that never happens.
