Free hospital treatment for civil servants husbands/wives.

Featured Replies

Being married to a Thai nurse (civil servant), up to now I had free medical care in any hospital that I applied in Khon Kaen.

I had to register with them and was allocated an ID number, that is the same for all hospitals.

Yesterday, my wife was called by the hospital accountant and was told that I'm not entitled to any Hospital care in Thailand.

Not only that but she is asking my wife to pay 40,000 Baht for medication I have received for the past 7 years.

I haven't got involved yet with this matter and I'm waiting my wife to get more information.

Can, anyone provide some information about this?

Is it true?

And why are they asking for the money now, when for the past 7 years they have been providing medication and hospital treatment for free?

Your answers will be appreciated.

Costas as you know i am married to Thai civil servant. I get medical treatment at Khonkaen hospital, no problem.

Yet last time we were at the hospital lay demanded we pay the bill 4000 baht, no my wife said my husband gets it free.

He has to pay or no medication. My wife paid but got the money refunded later.

The lady at KK hospital was wrong. Get your wife speak to them again.

As being married to a Thai civil servant you are covered under the government workers health sceme.

It does not cover everything (but a whole lot) If you are not registered with the hopsital you use you always pay first and get reimburst later. So always register with hospitals you frequently use.

But even when you are registered with the hospital, some things you will have to pay for your self first and get re-inburst through your wife's employer.

Note that you can basically only use govrnment hospitals, unless in an emergency. In an emeregncy as a hearth attack you can simply use the nearest hospital.

The statement from the accountment was false. It might be he is mistaken with the general healthcare (30 baht sceme). Some foreigners also recieved this due to unclear rules, but are not entitled to it.

Your wife should ask for a formal statement and bill from the hospital, which she than can send to the appropriete head office in BKK dealing with the govenment workers healthcare sceme.

Mario, Thank you very much.

That is what I thought also.

Tomorrow she will be asking the accountant for a full statement and explanation of the money claimed.

She is working in that hospital so her employer is the hospital.

I'll wait till I have more information and I will keep you informed.

Many Thanks again

It has been my experience that you are always registered prior to being treated or seen by a doctor. The registration generates the hospital number that is put on your file.

I know that the the plan for at least one of the State Enterprises allow you to be treated at any government hospital without having to pay.

You can also go to any private hospital for treatment - but pay up front. For private hospitals they reimburse only 50%.

Coverage also includes parents as well as the spouse and children.

TerryLH you do not pay upfront always and get re-imburst later.

I have had a lot of hospital treatment, only once in october last year did we have to pay first, and that was a mistake by the cashier at the hospital.

I was in hospital for 7 months, life support, 6 operations intensive care trauma plus much more, only thing we had to pay was 20% of cost of private room.

We were never asked for money only proof of my entitlement to recieve free care.

At a private hospital?

If you're talking about KK Hospital, that's a government hospital.

That's my SS designated hospital. No money or proof required. their computer system is pretty good and gives them the info they need to bill or not bill.

But, I was giving info about one of the countries State Enterprises.
