Germany's leaders urge nation to resist hate, back tolerance
FRANK JORDANS, Associated Press

BERLIN (AP) — German political and religious leaders appealed for tolerance Tuesday in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, a message meant to counter both religious extremists and growing anti-Islam protests in Germany.

Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck were among those who took part in the rally organized by Muslim groups near Berlin's iconic Brandenburg Gate and the French embassy, where wreaths were laid for the 17 people killed by Islamic extremists in Paris last week.

A group calling itself Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West, or PEGIDA, has been staging anti-Islam protests in the eastern city of Dresden for the last three months. Its latest protest Monday drew a record 25,000 supporters, with speakers citing the Paris attacks as proof of the danger posed by Islam.

Attempts to stage similar protests in other German cities, however, have been met with overwhelming opposition.

"Excluding population groups due to their faith or their origin is beneath the dignity of our liberal state," Merkel said in a speech ahead of Tuesday's rally. "Hatred of foreigners, racism and extremism have no place in this country."

Gauck told a crowd of several thousand — some with "We are Charlie" placards for the Charlie Hebdo paper in Paris where 12 people were killed — that Germany has benefited from immigration. He noted there were reasons to be concerned about young German Muslims going to fight in Syria and Iraq, but insisted Germany wouldn't allow itself to be split by extremists from any side.

"We stand against any form of demonization and ostracism," said Gauck.

Germany has 4 million Muslim residents, mostly of Turkish origin, who make up about 5 percent of its population of 80 million.

German leaders … 80 years ago

they were viciously working to increase hatred against a peaceful minority

Now

they are busy to talk down and decrease hatred against a not so peaceful minority which could soon become the majority if not appropriately resisted

Do they understand the difference between aggression and self defense?

Wouldn't healthy self defense be the best means against hatred?

Look at the rise of Marie Le Pen ... 10 years ago she and her French Nationalist Party didn't even get a look in; now of course things are changing because fear now dictates a measure of last resort.

You can pick any religion you like, they are mostly the same with extremist elements who somehow feel they are superior to the rest of us; such can only lead to problems and it is becoming clear across the EU that multiculturalism isn't bringing communities together but rather dividing them.

I can't see this getting any better and it'll certainly get worse with the silence from the Muslim community.

  • "Excluding population groups due to their faith or their origin is beneath the dignity of our liberal state," Merkel said in a speech ahead of Tuesday's rally. "Hatred of foreigners, racism and extremism have no place in this country."
  • "We stand against any form of demonization and ostracism," said Gauck.

The hypocrisy is mind-numbing, the betrayal palpable. Merkel herself broke political correctness a few years ago announcing "multiculturalism has utterly failed." In the above quotes she demonizes her own people who object to their own rape as haters, racists, extremists, and have no right to remain in their birth country regardless whether they have been there since the Saxons. How outrageous. She should be run out of office and investigated for her duplicity (see speech and enabling legislation) and complicity in enabling this unmitigated treason.

Her associate mouthpiece has the gall to then declare "[we]" assuming he speaks equally for Merkel (and all Germans) "stand against demonization and ostracism." How absurd. It is clear that they have chosen to replace the native population and open the gates to the city to all but natives. To say this while demonizing your own people is beyond the pale. There is positively no other explanation to say such things about your own people.

That's what they told the German population in the 1930's while Hitler was ramping up - just tolerate what you see, it will all be over soon. >:-(

It's taken W. Europe only about 65 years to forget. This forgetfulness started some time ago. Don't count from today.

How long ago was it that Berlin was still divided. I can remember hearing President Reagan saying, "Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall."

How old was Angela Merkel then? She doesn't remember? She doesn't know what caused it?

Silence from the media, perhaps. Muslim leaders have condemned the atrocity.

There is so little real terror in the U.S. the FBI have to fabricate it. What has been the result? An immense and terrifying 'Security State', complete with militarized Police goons and SWAT teams breaking down doors without a warrant. 'Combating Terror with Terror'. Nice campaign slogan, that.

Now it's Europe's turn. Be careful what you wish for.

Maybe Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck need to realize that what they are actually creating is a modern day Ghetto that is not filled with Jews rather filled with Muslims. As is the UK and the rest of Europe where they are creating pockets or Zones. The difference today is these Zones or Ghettos are preferred and wanted by the Muslim population simply because they do not want to spread out into society and mix with the native population. OK there is 5% or 4 million however how many neighborhoods are all these people inside? Not many! To me these people are just as bad ''if not worse'' than the Nazis because they are doing it at the expense and under a liberal propagandize. They are happy to watch these immigrants venture out from their ghettos and work in the industrial camps to strengthen the economy yet they know that most native people do not benefit from these people at all. All the leaders of Europe are doing the same thing, they are alienating the native population from these people because they do want to address the fact that these people hate the values and culture this native population hold dear. Europe's leaders are turning a blind eye to the real problem however one day someone will throw salt into the one good remaining eye and this is when the hit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJLhit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJL

Everything that is being done and said, is done to make us all feel warm and fuzzy about the changes that the PC liberals have silently surrounded us with worldwide. We are to be content with all the Muslim 'no go zones', the ever increasing Jihadist violence and the stifling build-up of layer upon layer of anti-terrorism activity.

I have never forgotten 9/11, nor will I forget. However, the only actions taken so far have been to restrict our personal freedoms, and to try to make us feel guilty since we "are the ones who have caused all this terrorism"

I am tired of this armageddon game - tired of being blamed for the wrongs of others - tired of being a victim in my own home.

No - I am NOT Charlie - I will shoot back.

C 'mon the world has done far to much " turn the other cheek " strategies,

none has had any effect on surging body counts and billions, ( US dollars ), spent on protection and useless individual battles. Time to make a clean sweep and

the so called " Good " Muslims just have to stay out of the way !

Incidentally the Good ones always say it is only a few who are bad but what is only 1 % of 1.5 BILLION Muslims ? Hardly a few !

You can urge people all you like...But it's probably a bit late, after the horse has been allowed to bolt ...uncontrolled.

Germany is beginning to sound like Hillary Clinton in regards to tolerance of radical terrorism, and that is a bad, bad mistake. Tolerance of this sort is what caused the massacre of more than 6 million people of one ethnic group just over 70 years ago. The world needs only to look back on history to see how easily this type of ethnic cleansing has taken place. How soon we forget.....

How do you suggest to tell between the "good" and the, presumably, rest?

The "answer" might be removed because it is so ridiculous. You found a few Jews that support multiculturalism. So what? They have all kinds of different opinions on just about everything. rolleyes.gif

I posted a reasonable reply to your post pointing out who is responsible and why mass immigration into europe has been promoted but unfortunately it has been removed

je suis charlie is only for people who support the establishment sanctioned point of view

Where were these people 70 years ago when millions were exterminated and no one marched for

those poor souls...

Radical Islam is the new Dr. evil of the world, while 1.6 billion Muslims say nothing and do nothing,

the world is afraid of those people, true and simple....

But it's nothing to do with Islam...
