Am I infringing some cultural sensibilities ?

Featured Replies

I recently stopped for a drink on a cycle ride and sat down at a stone table next to ..see picture.

Every driver that passed blew the vehicles horn quite loudly.

Was it me or something other ?

Looks like a spirit house, they were tooting for good luck, nothing you did old chap, rest easy.

Drivers will often parp the horn when passing a shrine....

I'm sure someone would have said something to you directly if you were committing a faux Pas....

Unless you were wearing ludicrous lycra and other silly cycling clothes.....then you may cause offence but not to any spirits....

Or Naked of course, but the op did not say how he was clothed or not.

100% there was a ghost sighting in the past of a lady wanting/asking for a new dress. They put this up and people put dresses there to keep the ghost happy.

I'd be concerned if I saw someone drive past and not beep their horn. That is what they do.

It is quite common among Thais and ex-pats...to toot your own horn...toot...toot...

Correct

Actualy you toot your horn at the village Spirit house as you leave the village, not everey time you pass or when you return. So you will be able to have a safe journey.

Maybe your muscular bicycling physic was giving passing drivers the horn?
